Anniversary weekend
We went to Portland for our anniversary and couldn't have been happier. The Hilton Garden Inn was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. The valets had good advice on local places to visit and were very accomodating. The location is fantastic. We were close to all sorts of shops, bars, restaurants and the Shipyard brewery that we did a tour of. Highly recommended!

Great mini-vacation
We were given a handicapped room although we never requested one. It was spacious, but simple amenities such as a bathrobe hook in the bathroom were absent and the closet rod was only about three feet off the floor. The staff was great, the bar was convenient and there were abundant restaurants within easy walking distance. The carpeting in the hallways was badly stained and my white socks were dulled by a bedroom carpet that could have been cleaner. However, I would not hesitate to stay there again. I would like to have had the option of an a la carte breakfast menu, but it was a price fixed buffet only. Our friendly bartender gave us great tips on local eateries as well as the history behind some of the more colorful ones.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
"J's" served some great lobster, steamed clams and fresh oysters. It's about two blocks from the hotel and is an old "dive" but the locals all know it, and one can expect a good 30 minute wait even on a slow night. Family run, rough around the edges but we kept going back for lunches as well as dinners.

You won't find a better deal
My stay at the Hilton Garden Inn was delightful. The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of town near quaint little shops and on the waterfront. We had a lovely ocean view from our beds, in fact. The rooms were much more spacious than I'd expected and included, beside the standard desk chair, an oversized stuffed lounger type chair that was great for the lounging teen boy. Staff was courteous and helpful, they made a point to ask us if we needed help finding our various destinations even going as far as to make calls and draw maps. Great customer service! I'd gladly stay again. My one quibble is the parking situation. We didn't realize that there was a daily charge to park in their lot until check out. That was a bit of a bummer but aside from that detail I highly recommend!

Fantastic Weekend for 2
The hotel was great. We loved the bed and breakfast week-end rate. We enjoyed 2 concerts while we were there. One was the Portland Symphony...excellent! On our next trip to Portland, however, we need to plan ahead for a great restaurant. The ones we thought we could get a reservation for, on the same day, were booked. Our mistake to think that Portland would be "dead" in February, and we could eat where we pleased.

Midwinter in Maine
A perfect location for exploring Portland, particularly when the weather is Mainely winter. A few steps to four good restaurants and a great bakery, a little way more to top boutiques. Thoughtful details like fresh cookies add to the quality of this Hilton Garden Inn.

Fore Street, immediately behind the hotel, is Portland's top restaurant. Just watching the dining room and the Standard Bakery below it from your windown can be a treat.

Great location!
Location is excellent for walking around the Old Port and easy access to the Arts District and many great restaurants and ocean access. There is mandatory valet parking - yet no where on the website did it state that there was a per day charge.

The sheets are changed every three
The sheets are changed every three days. However, when we got there the sheets didn't seem to have been changed as we found pubic hair on the bed sheet. We asked for it to be changed and went out for dinner. When we got back, reception apologized and assured us the sheets were changed. However, we checked it and again there was pubic hair on the supposedly new sheets. We complained to reception and front desk came up to change the sheets in front of us. The new sheet was good.
