Fun location, not so nice hotel
Jen Sep 25, 2009
This hotel is in a good location for the price, but it is very outdated. My husband and I are usually not very picky, but we ... were very unhappy with our stay here. We had to change our room twice. The first time was because they gave us a room with two double beds and the second was at 1:00 am because our air wasn't working and our room was very hot and stuffy.

went to bed hungry Sep 21, 2009
The rooms were nice, beds comfortable. The clerk at the front desk said the restaurant was open until 10pm. It was 9:45, but ... the restaurant staff wasn't interest in having anymore customers. We stood at the wait to be seated sign while they talked at a table in the restaurant.Even though they saw us they made no move to help us. I could have made a scene, or demanded service, but it wasn't worth it. Good food coming from people who aren't interested in doing a good job isn't likely.

The front desk was very helpful. We needed something to eat as it as a long day and room service was closed. They had a ... shuttle and drove us to a locale place and pickted us up.The one problem we had was we had a non smoking room but our room reeked of smoke. The windows were open and the air was on as if they were tring to air it out. However when we returnded a few days later we were given a 2 double bed room. I asked for a king size bed and was given a beautiful room. We were very happy.

Don't stay unless you have to
Ray Aug 8, 2009
DON"T STAY HERE unless you must. The hotel was easy to find. The immediate neighborhood appeared "seedy." There were no ... parking valets or attendants and no real place to "pull in." I parked at a high-rise lot next to the hotel. I had to haul my luggage myself to check-in up a long inclined hallway once in the hotel. You notice a "old smell' once inside, "your great-grandfather's hotel." I had to struggle up two sets of stairs from the hallway entrance to check-in! There was a coffee station and bar and restaurant in the lobby. There was a line waiting to check in and the lobby was uncomfortably warm. I waited over ten minutes to check in but the young staff was courteous and fast though they were interrupted frequently on their two-ways and phones. The clerk brought over my room key while I waited in the lobby. The staff had a local map ready and was knowledgeable about the locale. My parking ticket was validated by the clerk to discount my overnight fee from $20 to $16. The room smelled moderately of cigarettes, an obvious "smokers room!" The room was moderately sized, clean and had a nice view. There were two queen beds in a requested "king" room, a desk, coffee maker, TV, but no frig. The fixtures in the BR were badly outdated. The A/C was efficient but noisy! The room was an adjoining type room with connecting door and I was awoken at 1 AM by sounds of "Mother Nature" from the couple next door coming through the connector door. The wireless worked well but you have to ask for the passwords and sign in every sign on. I waited for the elevator and when it didn't come I the noticed the little sign above the buttons noting they were decorative from "1926" and didn't work! Outside the neighborhood is "seedy" with inner city types hanging out on benches, searching for cigarette butts and aluminum cans in carts and using four letter words. Safety may be a concern. The local restaurants were little "seedy" joints (there was Starbucks across the street) and it is a long walk to the wharf area/waterfront. The hotel staff offered to move my heavy bags down the two flights of stairs on the way to the lower entrance/garage hallway on the way out. There was a maid using an old fashioned roller carpet sweeper in lobby hallway. Even though this was a discounted room I would definitely NOT stay here again. I say that when you get something other than expected (no parking valet/pull-in area, awkward warm lobby, former smoker's room, noisy connecting room, seedy neighborhood).

So-So... Not as advertised...
JG Jul 17, 2009
We slept well, the bathroom was reasonably clean, the room has seen a lot of use, and had what must the noisiest A/C I've ... ever heard... The staff was friendly, and the mattress in the room was brand new, we slept very well, but walked around the room in our socks, as the floor has seen far better days. This hotel needs a thick coat of paint, new carpets and a deep cleaning...

Great rooms/location for the price!
Jeni Jun 17, 2009
This hotel was great for the money. Good location in the arts district of downtown, clean rooms, comfortable beds, and a very ... helpful staff! They even took us to the airport at no charge. I would highly recommend this hotel - only a 10 minute walk to the water! The only con was that you could hear water running in the rooms next door, but it is an older historic hotel, it didn't bother us.

The Easton Hotel is very conviently located in downtown Portland. It is an easy walk on a nice day to the waterfront and ... there are a number of great restaurants within a few blcks. The hotel is old yet in fairly good upkeep. The room sizes differ greatly depending on where you are. I've stayed at the Eastland about 6 times and never had a bad experience. And the bar on the top floor is pretty cool.

Low budget anniversary stay
Donald Oct 27, 2008
My partner and I live in Maine and decided to visit Portland and stay at the Eastland Hotel. My partner and I shared a bottle ... of champange while we celebrated 8 years together at the Top of the East. We enjoyed the experience and the professionalism and nonjudgment from staff very much contributed. We had a nice large size king bed room at a reasonable price. We ate at Local 188 and had a very nice meal with exceptional wait staf.

I arrived at the hotel around 9:30 p.m. on August 2nd. The hotel was very clean, well maintained, the restaurant was ... excellent and the restaurant staff were very pleasant, courteous and friendly. The maids were very pleasant and maintained the rooms in an outstanding manner. The maids did an excellent job of removing smoke odors from the room and the room was very comfortable and quiet. The hotel is an easy walk to the waterfront and the great shopping and an excellent variety of good restaurants. It's located in a safe neighborhood and convenient to public transportation.

Great showcase of the Old Port
James Aug 7, 2008
The Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, ME was just perfect for us. The hotel offers a great mix of old style and updated ... elegance. The room we stayed in was large and comfortable with plenty of space so that we weren't even cramped when using the sitting area. Everything was also very clean and tidy. The restaurant/lounge on the top floor is just a beautiful addition to any trip to Portland and overlooks the Old Port. Speaking of the Old Port, the hotel is an easy walk to it where you can enjoy all the shopping, restaurants and bars that the area is very well known for. My wife and I were also able to take advantage of the specialty massage offered at the hotel which was fantastic and very reasonable. Maureen was very gracious and found a way to fit us in on very short notice. I would highly recommend trying her Ashiatsu massage- wonderful! We would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to our next stay there as well.
