Perfect Location, Nice Clean Rooms, Helpful Staff

We made last minute reservations without knowing the area and ended up being pleased with our choice. The lobby was nice, the view from our room was great, we could see most of the city, the staff was friendly, helpful and full of personality. The room was comfortable and clean, especially for a hotel of that age. The Bathrooms were small, but we didn't care. And there was free wireless. We will stay there again.

Great location, very disappointing experience

The one good thing I can say about the Eastland was that the front desk staff were very pleasant and polite. That's the end of the positive review. My wife and I had requested a non-smoking king when we made the reservation. We ended up in a smoking room with 2 double beds. We were told that this is because we made the reservation through Orbitz and there was nothing they could do. The girl at the desk felt bad and gave us 2 $11 vouchers for breakfast to make up for it. The room was outdated, run down and reeked like an old ashtray. We wanted to open the window to get some air to try and offset the stench, but there were no screens on the windows. We chose the odor over the bugs. The bathroom looked like something you'd see in a prison with broken fixtures and rotted seals. The vent over the toilet only functioned as a way for the cigarette smoke from the room next door to enter out room. We had a nice night out in Portland and returned to our ashtray room to watch a little tv -literally. The television was maybe a 15" at best. The next morning we checked out and went to the restaurant to redeem our breakfast. We waited with several other people at the "please wait to be seated" sign for several minutes without being acknowledged by anyone. Finally, a disheveled, sweaty man (I believe his name was Jeff), pointed at us from across the dining room and gestured for us to follow him. He tossed a couple of menus on a table in the corner, pointed at the table and told us that's where we should sit, and then went about his business (which seemed to be running around like a chicken with his head cut off). We then waited for at least 10 minutes before another server came over and took our order. We ordered coffee as well as our meals. Several minutes later, our $4 cup of coffee arrived. As she delivered the coffee, she then asked if we wanted any cream. I was the lucky one as I drink it black. My wife had to wait several more minutes for some cream. The cream was finally delivered and the waitress quickly scooted away. It was as my wife was pouring the cream into the coffee that she discovered we had no silverware or anything she could use to stir the coffee with. She made do. Finally, the food arrived. It was ok. Very over priced. The plate I got that was priced at $12 would have cost $5 at any diner and probably would have tasted better. Breakfast was a comedy of errors that was so bad, we wanted to stay to see what would happen next. Had we not had the vouchers, we would have left after simply being ignored at the beginning. Overall, it was quite disappointing and clearly not worth: $227 for one night in the room, $18 for parking, and $17 for a horrible breakfast (would have been $39 if we didn't have the voucher). It's a shame because Portland is a fantastic city with tons to offer. The Eastland Park Hotel is taking up a great space that could be a real asset to the city.

Can't Do it Anymore

My wife and I have stayed at the Eastland several times before so we knew the hotel. In the past, we noticed that the hotel was in need of repair but it was never to the point where it bothered us. Well, looks like the cookie crumbled. We will not be staying at the Eastland for our annual visit to Portland next year (already booked a room elsewhere). Our room was in great disrepair as evidenced by the following: * The carpet had numerous stains (looked like red sauce or something). * There was something encrusted onto the top bedspread (always remove the top bedspread from any hotel bed). * The walls had numerous dings and dents, peeling paint etc. I could go on about how the tv is outdated and the small size of the room but I think that is enough. On the plus side, the staff was nice, the beds are very comfortable (but small) and the location is ok (although the surrounding area seemed to be getting sketchy towards night).

Hotel in dire need of upgrades

The hotel is pretty well positioned in downtown Portland and staff members are for the most part pleasant and eager to help. However, the hotel is in need of major upgrades - mismatched furniture, very loud air conditioning units, circa 1970-style bathroom sinks are not very appealing.

Disappointing, horrible experience

We had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Eastland Park Hotel. I booked my reservation months in advance for a wedding and we were flying into Maine from NYC for it. Unfortunately our flight was delayed by 2 hours. I called the hotel and spoke with someone at the front desk and told them that our flight was delayed and we should arrive at some point and if our flight was canceled I would call back and cancel the reservation. Eventually we board at 12:30am and arrive at the hotel at 1:45am. After paying a $20 cab fare to get the hotel (because they stop the shuttle service at 11pm) I'm told that our hotel room was given away. No mention of this when I called the front desk at 10pm and no one tried to reach out to me in between the time I called and the time we boarded to let me know that they had clearly overbooked. They put us in a hotel down the street- La Quinta which was cheaper and WAY better service than this place. Although they put us in a new hotel it was quite inconvenient because the shuttle to the wedding was leaving the next morning so again, we had to pay for a cab to take us back to the Eastland Park Hotel. When we arrived our room was still not ready. Once we finally got a room, I was disappointed that I had even paid the discounted wedding rate, which was still not cheap, and left La Quinta since it was a cleaner and had more friendly service. I would not recommend staying here at all especially if you are flying in from out of state because they'll most likely give your room away and not tell you. It's expensive for an unclean hotel with snobby, unhelpful staff.

Classic Hotel

The Eastland was built in 1925, and the facilities reflect that. Bathrooms are a bit too small, but the room we had was actually a suite (living room, bedroom). Parking was $25/day valet (needed if you want to go out more than once a day). The rooftop bar is very nice, and the staff is friendly and helpful. There's not a lot you can walk to, and it's not in the best part of Portland.
