Run,run very fast in the other direction

Terrible value for the price. Very dirty. My fault for getting a small room, but was trying to stay under $200/night. However, with the two twin beds in the room, even pushed together, could only open the bathroom door 1/3 of the way necessitating us going in sideways. Refrigerator is on a 3 legged stand, the 4th is lying beside it. The bathroom is so small the housekeepers obviously could not get in to clean it well. Walls are concrete--we can't agree if we were in a closet or a jail cell. No one has ever cleaned the windowsill. The beds are covered in plastic and sheets that don't fit well--the plastic is probably a blessing considering how filthy everything was.

Affordable relaxing getaway

The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We arrived 5 hours early and they still were able to get us into a room. The rooms were right on the ocean and so peaceful with no loud neighboring noise. There was enough parking spots and restaurants were only a walk away. We will definitely return!

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

They have some cheaper and wonderful restaurants only a short drive away. I recommend this rather than buy expensive overpriced seafood right by the pier.

Wow, that was small.

This is truly the smallest room I have ever experienced. I could lay on my bed and reach from one wall to the next. The bathroom did have room to turn around, but barely. Other friends also stayed here and had much larger rooms.

Great stay

I had an enjoyable encounter with the staff when I got there. Spent endless hours walking the beach and shopping. I was down there to go to a conference for 2 days. I had a great time and would go back again.

Room 51A

Loved waking up early to see the sunrise over the beach from my hotel bed, and breakfast at the Hotel Restaurant was very inexpensive and delicious. Most of the rooms have their own private balcony good for a quick step outside for a smoke. It was less then a mile to the pier or Mr goodbars.

hmmmmmm

Very friendly staff. Nice to wake with the sandy beach just outside the door. Rooms were small - but for a quick overnight, it was a convenient resting point.

A GOOD VALUE, PERSONAL ATTENTION

Alouette had good marketing strategy, lower prices during the slow season and use internet sites to send the word out. The strategy worked. Pricing and seeing that most previous guests had favorable reviews prompted me to pick Alouette over the chain budget hotels which charged more and had lower customer reviews. I took the deal and glad I did. Just in case, I kept a back up reservation at primo hotel for the remainder of my stay, but diod not need it. The primo hotel was charging three times what Alouette cost me. After seeing Alouette, I cancelled my reservation at the primo hotel and stayed at Alouette an extra night. Since I paid only a little, I got one of the small rooms mentioned in the other reviews. I was offered a free upgrade at check in, but decided to stay with what I had since it was just me. The room was small and furnishings old, but very clean, all in working order and given what paid a very god deal. It looks like the property was built or buildings acquired over the years, so some rooms are probably better and larger. I am not sure but it looks like a family run operation and the place looked well-staffed. During my off-season stay, the other guests looked like they were retirees. Alouette's location is good, about 1 kilometer to the dock/boardwalk. The hotel is right on the beach, something the other national budget hotels with higher prices and poorer customer reviews were not offering. With a great off season price of less than fifty including tax, I was very happy at Alouette. If they are offering a price below, equal, or even a bit higher than the competition take the deal. I probably will be back for a longer stay or for an overnight when flying in/out, since it is not too far from the Portland airport.

Small rooms, but great location

When we arrived, the hotel looked nice from the outside. The room we originally were booked in looked like a prison room. The walls were large white brick blocks and very small. The window in the bathroom was broken. We were able to upgrade for a cost. The room we ended up in was not very functional. The toilet was in a corner that would not even be accessible if someone were pregnant or a larger person. Also, you could not walk around the bed. The furniture in the room was very old and parts were broken. The staff was very nice, but it did not make up for the accommodations. The best part of the hotel is that it is directly on the beach. We spent most of our time on the beach. We loved that. Regardless, I would not book this hotel again.
