amazing location

This is a grand old hotel which is located on the water and has its own private beach and fabulous salt water pool. You can hear everything in your room when someone is in the hall and our room was not ready when we arrived. The desk staff was a bit snippy and said that they would call when the room was ready and did not. We had to wait till almost 3pm for our room to be cleaned. This was their right but it was not so nice. Also, beware that this hotel has lots of dogs and if you do not like dogs, this is not the place for you as many guests bring their pets. Also, no television!

Very nice stay

A really classy older hotel fronting the ocean. Great staff! Nice room in the Garland House. Floors were a little creaky, but that's all part of the charm. Bed was a roomy king, and bath was very nicely appointed. Parking right outside the room. Breakfast was included and was spectacular. Great grounds and water views. Will definitely be back.

Cape Pier Chowder House in nearby Cape Porpoise. Don't miss it for fresh shrimp, steamers and their other-worldly fish chowder!

Disappointing

Upon driving home from our vacation in Bar Harbor Maine we decided to stop in Kennebunkport as this is our usual destination. I was excited about staying at the Colony Hotel because of the great location. Unfortunately, when I booked the room, I did not realize we would not be staying at the main hotel. We stayed in the Galland House. The bed squeaked. There was only 1 electrical out that could accommodate a computer plug, which was in the bathroom. The bathroom was very small and there was no vanity to place your toiletries. We have stayed at several luxury hotels such as the Bar Harbor Inn & Spa. This is the first time a hotel has provided used mouth wash and cotton balls. I found this very offensive. The best part of our stay at the Colony Hotel was the good breakfast. Since this was an overnight stay we managed to make the best of bad hotel choice. Getting a room for $99 at the CH was clearly an example of you get what you pay for.

For the best fried Haddock or lobster dinner you should drive to Cape Pier Chowder House in Cape Porpoise, ME. It is not a fancy place, but the fish is definitely fresh! Also, Pier 77 which is next door to Cape Pier Chowder House is a very good restaurant.

Absolutely wonderful

It was a wonderful vacation. Ended up staying an extra-night, couldn't leave. Beautiful location, clean rooms, friendly and helpful service and a lovely private beach too. The pool was warm and the entire trip was lovely. The only thing missing was tv's in the bedrooms. Otherwise, truely a great trip and location, location, location :)

The Colony

I stayed at the Colony with a friend for the weekend for a wedding. The room was clean and cozy. We loved the complimentary breakfast buffet each morning. The location was perfect for the area and right by the water. Great view of the ocean from the dining area. Thought the pool and putting green would be great in warmer weather. Very friendly staff. Didn't realize they were a pet friendly establishment but appreciated that since I have a dog.

Cute little shops just down the street from the hotel. Also a great bike/run path along the ocean near the hotel. Wish I had brought my running sneakers.

Good experience

Overall it was very good. Room was large and comfortable with great ocean view. Restaurant was quite good and the breakfast that is included is very good. Nice pub in lower level. Internet service did not work in our room. Had to take laptop to lobby and then it worked fine.
