Best weekend away in years
When we arrived, our room wasn't as close to the Ocean as anticipated. We asked at the desk for a room closer to the Ocean and within minutes,we were accomodated. The staff was very polite and professional at all times. The room was clean and very comfortable, and the view was unforgettable. The pool was clean and enjoyable. We will definately return to Smugglers Inn.

Outdated but clean
The setting was lovely and the best thing about the hotel. However, we were disappointed as soon as we walked into our room. It was dark because of fake dark wood panelling, dull blue carpeting and dark bedspreads. The bathroom was clean but had old, colonial blue fixtures. Breakfast was ordinary. While it was perfectly acceptable, we wouldn't stay here again.

Great location, nice view.
My boyfriend and I enjoyed this location so much we came back. However finding a place to stay is hit or miss, and prices are high for what you get. This Inn is more like a motel. The room was not what was advertised when I booked it, OLD and drab with musty odor from mold in bathroom. Needless to say, I woke at two AM with reaction and had to sleep in our car. Next morning went to office where a young lady sympathetic to my plight and offered a choice of two other rooms in a different building, which were remodeled; just what was advertised. We think we were put in the wrong room but they didn't offer to adjust our bill just that we wouldn't be charged extra. I slept comfortable for the remainder of our stay.

So Loud.
My girlfriend and I stayed here while in town for a wedding. The staff was good and as helpful as you'd want. The room was very moldy smelling and there was also a hint of urine. If only this had been the biggest problem... Starting very early in the morning, as families left, it could not have been more noisy. We could hear the people in the room above us getting ready and it sounded as though they were about to come through the ceiling. As people leave the hotel, they are walking by your room on a deck type surface and every step is nearly deafening. it was impossible to sleep past 7am which was not what I was looking for after a rough evening at a wedding.

Slightly Disappointed
In looking for a one night stay in the Boothbay Harbor region, we were looking for something with a great view and good reviews. This hotel had good reviews and the room we booked said we were getting an ocean front view, so we went with it. For the price we paid, it was not worth it. We asked for a room with a balcony and an ocean front view and although we got a balcony (not a private one) our building was perpendicular to the bay and we had a huge tree in front of our window...thus, no ocean front view. The staff for check in and out were VERY friendly, but the staff at the restaurant left something to be desired. We had to ask the waiter to be waited on. The decor and rooms in general were outdated and the bed was like sleeping on springs...no padding or feather beds to make it comfortable. Needless to say, we didn't feel like we got our money's worth. We will go to Boothbay Harbor again because it so quaint and beautiful, but we will find somewhere else to stay, even if it costs us a little more money.

Beautiful Views of the Ocean
My husband and I enjoyed the quietness and serene views of the ocean from our balcony. Everything was satisfactory from the size of the room and beds to the grounds. Our only complaint was the beds- they were very springy and uncomfortable. We stayed two nights and both mornings we woke with stiff, sore backs. Otherwise everything was fine.

The Best Oceanfront Vacation Ever
This is a place I'll definitely return to. The staff is absolutely wonderful. When a maintenance issue popped up in our room after hours, we were quickly given an upgrade to another. The next morning, before breakfast, I could see the maintenance person already working to correct it. The Inn provided information sheets for a variety of driving tours, with written directions as well as a summary of what could be found along each path. The summaries were written in wonderful, detailed, folksy style that was as informative as it was fun to read. We were able to pick just the right day trip and taylor it to coincide with another event we were attending. Nothing could be easier.
