Time-saving tip:
Short drive from hotel
For visiting the beach, especially if you are carrying a good deal of items, it was much easier to take the car towards the beach. There is free street parking on Baltimore Avenue which saves you a good deal of effort. Many days we drove down and parked near 17th street so as to be on the boardwalk as well. Do -NOT- rent umbrella's and chairs at the beach if staying more than a day -- they are a day rental price at Walmart which is just down the road. When we stayed the rental for umbrella was $15 and a chair was $7 for the day. Walmart had a bigger umbrella for $20 and comparable chairs for $13. This also applies to boogie boards, but don't buy those at Walmart, they are cheaper ($17) but they break. There is a bounty of beach stores nearby, get a boogie board with the "plastic" bottom and spend more if you want it to last. I paid $39 for mine - however, I also made the mistake of buying one at Walmart for $17 that broke. At least not I have one to bring back the next time we stay! Sunscreen is also a definite Walmart buy $6 as opposed to $14 near the beach. Cigarettes are also a buy away from the beach. A great all you can eat seafood buffet was The Bonfire Restaurant, a bit pricey at $33 a head, but well worth it if you go hungry.
