High-rise comfort in happening downtown ‘hood -- outdoor pool included
The Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel is a 707-room high-rise that takes pride in its convenient location: The 1st Mariner Arena sits across the street and Inner Harbor's attractions are just blocks away. But there is also something to be said for the interior. The sizable rooms and suites emanate an urban vibe, the event space is seemingly unlimited and the ground level boasts Shula's 2, a casual bar with a knack for savory American cuisine. One more perk: An outdoor rooftop pool -- seasonal, of course.Highlights
- Convenient downtown location, three blocks from Inner Harbor and Baltimore Convention Center
- Seasonal outdoor swimming pool
- Shula's 2, a casual on-site bar and restaurant that serves contemporary American cuisine
Location
The Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel's downtown location works well for business and leisure travel. The Baltimore Convention Center is a short distance away, as are a number of corporate offices. The area also is rife with shops, restaurants, live entertainment and other attractions.

The food here comes free (continental breakfast in the morning, hors d'oeuvres in the afternoon) and beverages also are offered.
Features
High-speed Internet is available in every room (fees apply).
Guests hit up the seasonal outdoor pool or complimentary fitness center with cardio machines.

Nothing special
This was the hotel our organization picked for its annual conference. I decided to stay there despite poor to mediocre reviews, in part because of a great airfare and hotel room deal. Had I paid the regular room rate I would not have been happy with the accommodations. Rooms are small (at least mine was) and sparsely decorated. Bed was comfortable with nice linens but average pillows. The view, overlooking a city street and a building demolition site, was pathetic. The room was relatively quiet, but only because my neighbors were--I could hear them easily when they talked. Other floors with more families or partiers would have been tough to take. Housecleaning was good; I had no problems with dirty sheets or towels, although I did not asked them to be changed (they give you the choice, which I appreciate). The staff was okay; some better than others. Bellman and doormen were helpful and polite. The attached restaurant was strange--wait service was almost an afterthought. One person at the conference said he got food poisoning, but my salad was okay. Wireless was ridiculous--expensive, and half the time you couldn't get online. When I complained upon checking out I was told that "they were more than %100 booked" on their internet service, but they did not offer a refund or credit. Overall it was good enough for the conference, but not a hotel where I would stay again if given the choice. I'd give it a 2.5 but opted for the 3.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
The Lumbini Restaurant, a short walk up North Charles, had excellent Indian/Nepali food. Brewers Arts, a mile or so up North Charles, is a dark but fun brewpub near the U Baltimore campus.

Experience
I would have given the rating 5 stars if I had not called up the hotel 1 day before my stay and try and verify my reservation. The person on the phone said I did not have a reservation. I told her that I had a receipt that shows I do have a reservation. It seemed that she was very eager to just get me off the phone as quickly as possible without helping me resolve the issue. After some back and forth regarding the reservation she transferred me to the front desk. They were much nicer but told me to call the website where I booked my reservation. The representative was great She put me on hold and got everything taken care of. When I arrived at the hotel, an older gentleman was at the front desk. He was so nice and pleasant. I wish I remembered his name. I arrived on March 3, 2012, around 12:45 am. Anyway, he was just so kind and helpful. The room was also great! I would definitely stay at this Sheraton in the future.

Clean, Comfortable, Better than Average!
When we arrived at the hotel they said our reservation was still not in the computer. The staff made me call to resend the reservation, Even though I had printed the reservation confirmation email This wasted about 40 minutes of my time which caused me to miss my show.

Short trip
It was a nice hotel. Wasn't too fond of how the front desk manager was not very understanding. The room didn't have a microwave or a refridgerator. You have to pay for wi-fi there and there was no continential breakfast which struck me as odd because even lower end hotels have all that.
