Poor
The Homestead Boston was to be an extended stay hotel - the reason it was chosen. The hotel was dirty, the rooms were so-so, furniture (sofa) was dirty and ragged, carpet on floor was not clean. Minimal amenities - no service on weekend without extra charges. Overall - on a scale of 1 to 10 and 10 at the top is was well below a 1. Will not stay there again. In rating the hotel dining options - there were no options - hotel did not provide any dining services that we were aware of.

Short drive from hotel
Restaurant was a seafood restaurant that we had used before and it was very fine. Within 5 minutes of the hotel. Do not remember the name but it is a chain within the Boston area.

The entire 2nd floor stunk
The entire 2nd floor smelled of rotting seafood the first night. The next night it was a different indescribable but equally horrid smell

Yuck.
Room and bathroom relatively clean, but worn out. Hallways and elevators very dirty. Place rather creepy overall.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever!
I will never go back to this hotel. There are NO amenities, the dishware was filthy, the room was dirty, not even any shampoo. They only make up the room every 7 days so a little tiny bar of soap has to last a week. The "free" wi-fi was worthless. I paid for an upgrade to "fast" wi-fi and it was still too slow to use. Desk clerks were useless in addressing any problems.

Filthy and a price gouger to boot
Unfortunately, the local hotels were booked out so the Homestead was my only choice. By comparison, I have had the pleasure of staying at the Westin which is about 200 yards away with a room rate of ~$219. At the Homestead, I paid the room rate of $235. What did I experience? The stench of cheap disinfectant upon entering the building. The only elevator was broken. Water dripping from the hallway ceiling. The desk attendent was not at the desk upon my arrival or departure. Dirty, worn out carpets in the common areas. A room that smelled of old smoke, stale beer, body odor, urine, and disinfectant. An air conditioner, that, while it did barely work, made a terrible racket. Carpeting in the room that was so old, worn out, and dirty, that I kept my shoes on at all times. Given the filth of the room, while I did not get any bedbug bites, I hardly slept due to concerns about what animals might come emerge when the lights were out. I went to bed at 11 PM. Due to the noise of the air conditioner and wondering about cockroaches and rats, I awoke at 1:30. My limo pickup was not until 8 AM. However, to escape this place, I called a cab and checked out around 5 AM since paying to ride in a cab was preferable to waiting in the building. In addition to the filthy, dilapidated state of the Homestead, the Homestead price gouges. The room card indicated a maximum rate of $200/night. I was charged $235. Please stay away from the Homestead. It would be preferable to stay at a Comfort Inn 20 miles away than this place.

Grossed Out Mom from NJ
Disgusting
The room had not been vacuumed and reeked of a recently-sprayed air freshener. When I tried to open the window for fresh air, I caught the screen just before it fell out of the window. There was garbage under the bed, dishes in the kitchen area had been put away dirty and the batteries had been removed from the TV remote. Unjfortunately, I knew there were no vacancies in the area under $300 otherwise I would have checked out and demanded a refund. To add insult to injury, what I paid for this room was exorbitant.

My review of Homestead Boston - Waltham
This hotel was below average (I guess you get what you pay for since it was cheap). The carpets in the lobby and room were dirty and I just did not feel the bed was too clean either. I could not even purchase a bottle of water because the machine was empty. I must say the staff at the front desk was very nice.

Frugal Yankee
Location, location. location
The location was perfect for getting 2 kids squared away at colleges in the area...easy to find and right off Rt. 128. The overflowing trash can at the entrance was not exactly welcoming. Staff was friendly and pleasant throughout stay although upon check-in did try to tell me only a smoking room was available. The elevator floor and hallways were long overdue for vacumming as was the room. Stairwells were worse. Clumps of animal fur and who knows what else. Kitchen and bath were clean. Rooom had ample space. Cockroach in bedside drawer but hey, no place is immune. The only reason I would not return is the lack of attention to the carpets. They were FILTHY.

could have been great
This was a great location for my work. However the room smelled like heavy stale smoke even though smoking was not allowed. I had to keep the windows open the entire time I was there to stand it. The hotel was booked and so were the ones beside it so moving to another room or hotel was difficult at best. The kitchen, laundry, and staff were all good though. No resturant availabe and food locations were not close by. I will probably try the Deluxe Extended Stay in located in front of this hotel or the Hilton next to it when I travel there again.

Short drive from hotel
Down town Waltham has a few resturants that are simple and good. Demos for persian food and Sabatinos Italian Kitchen for italian. However this town shuts down quickly so late evening dining is impossible. I had to drive 20 miles to Boston for fine dining.

Not worth the cheap price! Avoid!
I chose this hotel because of the location and the kichenette (microwave, range top, toaster, full fridge). Our room was clean, and well kept (no shampoo though). Everything started out well however on the second (and last) morning of our stay there was a blackout in the hotel around 8:20am. When we tried to reach the front desk no one answered, a few moments later when we tried again there was no dial tone. Two hours later around 10:20am, the power came back on. Unfortunately it was too late for us, we took two showers in darkeness except for a sliver of light coming through the bathroom door. We couldn't eat breakfast because there was no power hence can't use the convenient kitchenette! We could hear employees walking up and down the hall but no one ever explained anything to us. Upon checkout the staff member was very friendly but made no attempt to explain what happened or ask if everything had worked out fine for us. According to her, after my boyfriend inquired, there had been a blackout in the entire area not just our hotel. Accidents happen, but it is up to the staff to make sure that their guest know what is going on! Never again.
