Great Weekend Getaway

The breakfast was yummy. The service was great. The Inn is very close to main strip, like two blocks away, so very close to everything that is going on in town. I would definitely stay again!

Fantastic breakfast but disappointing room

First the positives: the location is great, the staff is very nice and the breakfast is no less than amazing - creative, delicious and plentiful. On the flip side: the room was tastefully but very sparsely furnished. We paid for the 'Superior Double' and I was really surprised at how small it was. It had a bed, a night stand, a small table and a desk chair, that's it. The bathroom was TINY and had almost no usable counter space and the shower had practically negative pressure. It was like showering under a dripping faucet. Disappointing!

Not quite there yet!

I love ptown and Ptown is the first place where my boyfriend and I took a trip to. So we got married on Saturday and decided to go here as a 'pre' honey moon since we both work and could only take off so many days. The inn is well located and that is as much positive I can say about it. The room we got, was as small as my walk in closet! And I live in New York!!! So small it was difficult to move around, my husband hit his toes several times on the beds feet. We alerted the hotel this was our honey moon so we expected something extra special. The only 'gesture' was they left a bottle of rose in the room for when we arrived. THAT'S IT. I have been to some of the best hotels in the world, I just wish I would have chosen a different destination (or hotel) for my honey moon, not that we needed much or expected that much more, but it's Ptown and it was our honey moon!!!!! The bathroom was bare and small. Amenities were not replaced, there was a hairpin on the sink from a previous guest as well, oh and last but not least about the bathroom the toilet paper was not replaced. It was very thin when we checked in... disgusting. Under the bed, trash! A water bottle and paper. Totally unacceptable. The breakfast, which is included in the high price, looks like their most successful effort, but also ends up falling short: limited options, no espresso machine, etc. The hotel is very noisy, you hear everything through the paper thin walls, doors opening and closing, neighbors sniffing, etc. So to wrap it up, I do not recommend this hotel. We booked last minute so we couldn't go to our favorite, the Carpe Diem Guest House. If you go to Ptown, go to the Carpe Diem, everything I listed here as missing or lacking, is present at the Carpe Diem and so much more!! This hotel is probably worth 30% of what we paid for it (even in high season!).

The Salt Box Inn (formerly Dexter's)

This is a lovely older building, renovated in a very stylish way with bare floors, white furnishings, white tiled bathrooms, clear glass lights, and several charming outdoor sitting areas. It will soon be renamed the Saltbox Inn. For 4 nights I was the only person there, but the staff served me breakfast every morning, cleaned the room, and even let me use the house phone for some important business calls (AT & T does not have good reception out on the Cape). It is within 3 blocks of the harbor beach, close to many good restaurants, and has good parking. I was there at the end of the summer season, so the tourist traffic was diminishing, some stores & restaurants were closed for the winter, and the road crews were out repairing the streets.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are many really fresh sea food restaurants all around town; a charming coffee & pastry & candy shop, The Purple Feather; bars & pubs & cafes & sea food shacks for every taste & style. There are NO fast food franchises, because everything is locally owned.

Can' wait till next year to do it all again at Dexter's

Wow...Kevin was a fantastic host. We have been doing the B&B thing for years but we have to say..Dexter's was the most pleasant... Every morning breakfast was a surprise..unique food items...the room was immaculate and our maid kept it that way....we will never have to go searching for a B&B again when we visit Ptown...we will make a Bee line for Dexter's...

An Excellent, Relaxing Getaway

Dexter's Inn was a delightful and relaxing getaway for my fiance and I in August 2012. Both of the owners were extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and Kevin provided some excellent suggestions regarding places to go and things to see. The location also is practically unbeatable. just a block and a half from Commercial Street (the main pedestrian thoroughfare and source of most of Provincetown's entertainment), Dexter's has enough distance to get a good night's sleep while remaining close enough to stay out as late as you want without worrying about a lengthy trip back to your bed. The decor is also beautiful. The whole place has this minimalist/modernist vibe with touches of old sea-faring equipment to remind you that you're enjoying a vacation just near the national seashore. Overall, Dexter's was a superb choice, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing hobe-base for your Provincetown vacation!

Go see Miss Richfield 1981's show at the Crown & Anchor! One of the funniest comedy routines I've ever seen, not to mention she's a superb drag queen.

Times they are a changin'

Under new ownership the Dexter Inn is being remodel and upgraded. It's more then half finished and looks great. Don't let the old reputation fool you. The new owners worked in the Hotel and Hospitality industry and are building a great high quality inn that has all the amenities you love. (including the famous Westin beds). Be sure to ask for a new room as they still have 6 rooms left to remodel and you won't be disappointed. PS: their free breakfast is awesome! And they have free WiFI.
