The Salt Box Inn (formerly Dexter's)

This is a lovely older building, renovated in a very stylish way with bare floors, white furnishings, white tiled bathrooms, clear glass lights, and several charming outdoor sitting areas. It will soon be renamed the Saltbox Inn. For 4 nights I was the only person there, but the staff served me breakfast every morning, cleaned the room, and even let me use the house phone for some important business calls (AT & T does not have good reception out on the Cape). It is within 3 blocks of the harbor beach, close to many good restaurants, and has good parking. I was there at the end of the summer season, so the tourist traffic was diminishing, some stores & restaurants were closed for the winter, and the road crews were out repairing the streets.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are many really fresh sea food restaurants all around town; a charming coffee & pastry & candy shop, The Purple Feather; bars & pubs & cafes & sea food shacks for every taste & style. There are NO fast food franchises, because everything is locally owned.

Wow...Kevin was a fantastic host. We have been doing the B&B thing for years but we have to say..Dexter's was the most pleasant... Every morning breakfast was a surprise..unique food items...the room was immaculate and our maid kept it that way....we will never have to go searching for a B&B again when we visit Ptown...we will make a Bee line for Dexter's...

An Excellent, Relaxing Getaway

Dexter's Inn was a delightful and relaxing getaway for my fiance and I in August 2012. Both of the owners were extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and Kevin provided some excellent suggestions regarding places to go and things to see. The location also is practically unbeatable. just a block and a half from Commercial Street (the main pedestrian thoroughfare and source of most of Provincetown's entertainment), Dexter's has enough distance to get a good night's sleep while remaining close enough to stay out as late as you want without worrying about a lengthy trip back to your bed. The decor is also beautiful. The whole place has this minimalist/modernist vibe with touches of old sea-faring equipment to remind you that you're enjoying a vacation just near the national seashore. Overall, Dexter's was a superb choice, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing hobe-base for your Provincetown vacation!

Go see Miss Richfield 1981's show at the Crown & Anchor! One of the funniest comedy routines I've ever seen, not to mention she's a superb drag queen.

Times they are a changin'

Under new ownership the Dexter Inn is being remodel and upgraded. It's more then half finished and looks great. Don't let the old reputation fool you. The new owners worked in the Hotel and Hospitality industry and are building a great high quality inn that has all the amenities you love. (including the famous Westin beds). Be sure to ask for a new room as they still have 6 rooms left to remodel and you won't be disappointed. PS: their free breakfast is awesome! And they have free WiFI.
