Great for what we needed

We had a family of four who had just vacationed in Saco, ME for a week and wanted to stay in Salem, MA for a night on our way home to Pennsylvania. I've stayed in various places around Danvers in the past 4 years, and was comparing places between 5 different travel sites. I found this place cheaper than it was listed on other sites, and booked it. It's a little hard to find, as it doesn't sit directly on the road- instead, it sits behind and below the hill from a restaurant. You really have to pay attention to the sign, because to get to it, you need to pull into the restaurant's parking lot and follow the purple arrows to the motel. My mother thought there was an "old" smell to the room, but it seemed fine to me. I liked having windows, the room was extremely clean, and the staff was friendly when I stopped by a few hours before check in. We finally checked in about 7p after a day in Salem, showered, slept, and were up at 6a the next day. The shower could maybe have a better shower head, but there was plenty of hot water and the bathroom was plenty spacious, which is important with 4 family members all over the age of 23 trying to get ready. The Wifi held up pretty well too, there were four of us all using our devices at the same time just before bed, and we were able to park directly in front of our room. It's not extremely ritzy, but if you just need a place to sleep after a day of touristing, it's a pretty decent place. I plan to come back to Salem next year and will probably stay here again.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

In Salem, MA, use the parking lot located along Federal and Church streets-costs $1 per hour, but it's the best place to park and everything is within walking distance. Definitely take the trolley tour if you want to get a feel for Salem- $15 a person, but it gives you all day access to the trolley, which can be a great way to get from Point A to Point B if you don't feel like walking.

Off Route 95

A little difficult to locate since it is off Route 1 and if you miss the sign, the hotel is located out of sight behind a restaurant, Route 1 at that point is a one-way street and turning around and trying again is quite complicated. Check-in person was not particularly friendly or accommodating, but the person on duty when we checked out was delightful and very friendly. They only give one room key per room and the doors cannot be unlocked so loading and unloading a car is very inconvenient. If you lose a key, the charge is $50. Rooms at the rear of the hotel are right next to Route 95 and traffic noise can be loud. Rooms were not fancy, but very clean with lots of towels.

Great location

We were visiting Boston and the surrounding sites and this was a perfect location right in the middle of it all. The pool was great for the kids and there were many places to choose from to eat. We would definitely stay here again!

PRICE IS RIGHT

Check-in was 3pm. We had to wait about 30 min. for room. Typical Continental breakfast is included. Selection was much to be desired. WiFi in room is a plus. I have a hard time believing this is part of Wyndham . Get what you pay for. Room was clean, generic, comfortable and dated . Repairs being made on entry driveway. Small property that is not easily accessible. Needed a room for a night - went whale watching in Gloucester on Thurs. & Fri. Was able to go to Weathervane in Maine for lobster dinner.

Great night's sleep

I was very happy with tthis stay. Very affordable, and I got the handicap accessible room, so it had a roll-in shower. I don't need that, but the room was very nice, clean, and quiet. Just what I needed.

left wanting better

Menus for local restaurants that deliver but no table and chairs in room to eat at. Water pressure practically non existent at certain times of day. Just a trickle out of the shower turned all the way up. Motel not visible from road difficult to find. Non smoking room yet clothes left lying on bed smelled of smoke. Non smokers can pick that up easily. Continental breakfast had good choices , better than most motels offer. Friendly staff.

Very mixed feelings about this hotel

We arrived in the late afternoon on a gloomy day. Checkin was fast, but the desk clerk was not very welcoming. Then we drove around to our room, and it was very disappointing. 1. Room keys are actual keys, and there is only one per room. 2. The room was a good size, but the beds seemed undersized even for doubles. 3. There was a small round table with 2 chairs, an oleder RV, a few drawers, and a beat up fridge and microwave. The chairs were stained. 4. The bathroom . . . first of all, the floor was so dirty I wouldn't step into it in my bare feet. The sink and counter looked clean, and the toilet seat and bowl were clean, but there was nasty stuff on the base of the toilet around the big bolts that hold it into the floor. I mean, really nasty. Although the tub and shower looked clean, I showered with my Crocs on my feet. It was fairly depressing, and our daughter was very unhappy as it was her birthday and she felt like we'd checked her into the Bates Motel. Our solution was to spend no time there at all except to sleep. Honestly, if we could have gone somewhere else we would have, but we had prepaid for the room. At least the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was nothing but carbs. Muffins, bagels, cereal, etc. No protein of any sort, not even a hard-boiled egg. So we ended up buying breakfast out. It ended up costing more than a higher-priced hotel with a better breakfast. Lesson learned. There is only one ice machine and vending machine area for the entire motel. They lock the back door at 9 pm, which I found out the hard way. After 9 the only way to get ice is to go all the way around, into the reception area, and down a flight of stairs. At checkout the woman at the desk was very nice. I mentioned the nastiness of the toilet to her, and she asked if I had told the desk on arrival to give them a chance to make it right. I told her I hadn't, because I really didn't think it would make any difference. Maybe it would have, but you'd think the staff would see it and do something about it without being asked. Needless to say, we won't be visiting again. I knew it was a budget motel, so I figured things might be a bit worn or out of date. I hadn't figured on filth.

Great value

Great value for the price, which was the lowest I could find in the area. Not the most luxurious place in the world, but it was a good option for the one night I needed lodging near Peabody/Danvers.

Just okay

The king size room we had wasn't available so they put us in a queen without even letting me know. When i called the front desk they apologized and offered to put me in a room with 2 double beds. That room was absolutely disgusting. There was dust on the ceiling and the room had a musty woody smell to it that was so bad. I finally called orbitiz to see if this hotel had any other room available and they swicthed us back to the queen room. The queen room was very clean and did not have a gross smell. Check your room before you get comfortable. The lock on the double bed room was also broken as well as the dead bolt. Depends on the room you get i guess.
