Perfect for a young professional

The Charles Hotel was amazing. Beautiful, modern hotel, with very helpful and professional staff at hand 24-7. The hotel is in a perfect location right in the heart of Harvard Square, you can walk to the T station or you can hail a cab and the quality of restaurants and services within the hotel are remarkable. I would recommend this hotel to couples or singles for a very pampered weekend away or for a whole vacation in Boston.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Harvard bars, high quality restaurants and ecclectic shops are all within walking distance. Grab a martini at Noir or right outside on the hotel front patio at the Legal Seafoods outdoor bar- it's a great way to relax in the afternoons.

Classy on Harvard Square

This was truly the best hotel I have stayed in for many years. The room was very spacious, immaculately clean, and had wonderful views. It was well worth the cost. Every staff member I encountered was courteous, efficient, and actually seemed to enjoy her/his job. This was true of the hotel staff and restaurant (Henrietta's Table) staff. Finally, the location is marvelous - just a few blocks from the Harvard Square subway stop.

Use the valet parking. The cost is no higher than parking the car yourself in the underground garage.

Perfect location for Harvard & train access

I stayed 4 nights in a King suite (room 408) located near a reception hall used for parties. Therefore, music lasted until 9 pm Friday and 11:30 Saturday night. I called the reception desk to ask for another room (fully booked) & received earplugs. The space was large but not plush or overly comfortable (at $500 a night). The carpet was dirty and the furniture cheap, but it's better than what you'll get in New York for that amount. Henrietta's Table is their casual restaurant located on the 2nd floor. The waffles and fruit plates were wonderful for breakfast. Don't order in room breakfast, as it's twice the expense, and the omelette was practically inedible. Concierge was quite helpful with directions. Taxi's were available immediately, costing $40 to/from the airport, though the Harvard T station is nearby and one can connect at Park then Governor's to a line going to the airport at a fraction of the cost. The T will take you just about anywhere. I was visiting my high-school child taking coursework at Mass Art, and we were able to visit Harvard and MIT easily. We also traveled to Jamaica Plain (arboretum), MMFA, and the Harvard Museums at Peabody Hall. The Charles Hotel is perfect for anyone wanting to be near Harvard Square.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

It's a very short walk to the T at Harvard Square. It will quickly and inexpensively take you to just about any local in Boston or Cambridge. The trains are far quicker than the buses and about as time consuming as a taxi. Avoid rush hours on the week days unless you don't mind being a fish in a sardine tin.

Great hotel!

The room was absolutely beautiful, decorated in Shaker style but very up to date. The coolest feature was that the TV in the bathroom was in the mirror! It's located by Harvard Square so is close to great restaurants. The hotel bar is open until 2 am, unlike rest of the places in the square! I stayed here so I could be close to family in Cambridge but it is not the ideal location if you plan to spend time in Boston (although there is a T-stop nearby)

A Comfortable Stay

Enjoyed a very comfortable night at the Charles. Nice surprises like an extra deep bath tub and a TV hidden in the bathroom mirror. The restaurants in the hotel are fine, but very expensive. Lots of great places to eat in Harvard Square. So, be sure to get out of the hotel for meals.

Skip the super expensive room service and walk one block to the Crema Cafe for coffee and a fresh baked English muffin with jam, or other yummy pastry.
