Very comfortable, convenient, friendly
We have not found a hotel in Cambridge to beat The Charles for convenience, comfort, and friendliness. You can find very good food there, from home style to high cuisine, pretty much any time. The gym is a full-scale health club, well-equipped and full of sunlight. You can walk to Harvard, and many attractions are a short drive away. What's not to like?

Great place to spend the blizzard of 2013
We spent the blizzard of 2013 here. I was amazed at the staff who spent 3 days working continuously always had a smile on her face and greeted me warmly. The facilities people Kept up with the snow and we were able to get out and move around and was more than enough to keep this occupied for 48 hours within the hotel itself. Food was great.

Weekend in Harvard Square
We had a great long weekend in Boston and really enjoyed our stay. Had never stayed there before. The location is great, as was the view from our room. It was a super price and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The bathroom had a mirror with a TV inside! Didn't eat at the hotel, as we already have our favorite spots in Boston

Classy, comfortable hotel
We stayed at the Charles Hotel for an entire week, visiting family and friends at Thanksgiving. The hotel has a great, large health club, with lots of helpful staff, and it is complimentary for guests. The Regatta Bar is one of the best jazz venues in the country. Our room was quiet and tastefully decorated. Since it is situated just a block off Harvard Square, you can walk all over Harvard, checking out shops, good restaurants and historic sites. The T-stop is close, so you can get to Boston in minutes.

Great location if going to Harvard.
If you are visiting Harvard this is the best hotel to stay (also look for the Veritas Hotel). It is located right next to the JFK School of Government, 5 minutes from Harvard Business School and a 3 minute walk from the main Harvard college campus. My wife and I visited the JFK School of Government and were delighted to find that the hotel is right next to the school. We stayed there in the first week of classes for Harvard Students so there were a lot of events in the hotel for students and faculty. It got a bit noisy at night but nothing to worry about if you are in your room. Anyways, highly recommended even if you are not visiting Harvard. Everything is very near and the T-Stop is 5 minutes away walking distance. On the negative, it is a bit on the expensive side but most of the hotels in Boston are quite expensive.

Perfect location for Harvard & train access
I stayed 4 nights in a King suite (room 408) located near a reception hall used for parties. Therefore, music lasted until 9 pm Friday and 11:30 Saturday night. I called the reception desk to ask for another room (fully booked) & received earplugs. The space was large but not plush or overly comfortable (at $500 a night). The carpet was dirty and the furniture cheap, but it's better than what you'll get in New York for that amount. Henrietta's Table is their casual restaurant located on the 2nd floor. The waffles and fruit plates were wonderful for breakfast. Don't order in room breakfast, as it's twice the expense, and the omelette was practically inedible. Concierge was quite helpful with directions. Taxi's were available immediately, costing $40 to/from the airport, though the Harvard T station is nearby and one can connect at Park then Governor's to a line going to the airport at a fraction of the cost. The T will take you just about anywhere. I was visiting my high-school child taking coursework at Mass Art, and we were able to visit Harvard and MIT easily. We also traveled to Jamaica Plain (arboretum), MMFA, and the Harvard Museums at Peabody Hall. The Charles Hotel is perfect for anyone wanting to be near Harvard Square.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
It's a very short walk to the T at Harvard Square. It will quickly and inexpensively take you to just about any local in Boston or Cambridge. The trains are far quicker than the buses and about as time consuming as a taxi. Avoid rush hours on the week days unless you don't mind being a fish in a sardine tin.
