Disappointing Anniversary

My wife and I planned a nice weekend in Cambridge to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. I had been guaranteed a king bed with a river view. After getting to our room we had a small handicap accessable room with a queen bed and a view of a building. The blinds did not work and the room smelled like sweat. When I called the front desk the attitude was they were sold out and tough luck, we could have a room with two double beds. I travel extensively and the value for the room, service and experience was very dissapointing. On the brite side Cambridge was wonderful!

Perfect location!

The furnirure should be refinished or replaced but overall it was a great experience! They give you bicycles to use, ice cream and cookies in the afternoon. There are two resturants with outside eating areas that have a city view. Dante resturant is very good and the bartender, TJ is a gem! There is a huge shopping plaza right across the street and the River cruise leaves from the back side! The boat ride is complimetary from the hotel consierge during the summer. The hotel offers a shuttle service to main attractions where you can catch the hop on hop off bus. Amenities are first class and large! Pillows are unbelievable!! I wanted to bring one home!!!

Take the hotel shuttle to the hop on hop off bus, ticket is good for two days and is really a great way to get around with informative drivers! The bartender at Dante created a great cocktail w/ a frozen cube of lemoncello and flower petals on top, try it!

Could use a little comman sense

We had booked one of our rooms for 4 nights and another room for 1 night since our daughter who lives in Boston wanted to spend some time with us. I had booked the room for 4 nights in my name and the room for 1 night in my husbands name so that there would be no confusion about the two reservations. When we checked in, my husband did all the information, including showing his ID even though the room was in my name using my CC. I was never asked to verify who I was even when I signed the CC receipt. A couple of days later, I went to check in the other room we had for 1 night for our daughter and the staff would not let me check in since it was in my husbands name even though they had let him check into the room I had made the reservation under my name. It was obvious we were the same group - all the information was under my CC. While I understand the person's name the reservation is under should be present, there should be some common sense applied and they should enforce their "rule" at all times so I would have known this was their policy. Hotel staff was snotty and not at all inclined to help resolve the issue.

Beautiful Introduction to Cambridge

After enjoying the hotel myself, I booked a room for my parents for their visit. They got a beautiful and huge room, with a panoramic view of the Charles river (although we did not pay for a room with a view). What a lovely surprise! The hotel is very conveniently located, across the river from Boston, and a 10 minute walk to the T system. The amenities are great (including office services, such as a printer). There is outside seating on the hotel side facing the river. Really great place to stay.

9th Wedding Anniversary

The great thing about the hotel is its located in historical, prestige, and beautiful Cambridge, Ma. Its nested between the Charles River and Galleria Mall. The hotel offers complimentary bikes for local rides, ice cream for the kids and young at hearts, and tickets for a tour up the Charles river. For those who like to walk and/or run, there's a great trail that starts directly behind the hotel and flows alone Charles river. However, my stay at the Royal Sonesta was horrible. Other than the amenities mentioned earlier, the hotel is no different from any other Howard Johnson, Marriott, or Hyatt. We arrived early before check-in time excited to start our 9th anniversary and because the computer system was down the reservation desk and management refuse to check-in my wife and me although we showed proof that the room was prepaid. After going to breakfast, a little shopping, and sitting in the lobby for 3 hours, they finally decided to check us in and give us an upgrade to a room that the door didn't close properly, the room was small, and the furniture look as though someone had just cleaned mold from it. Because the front desk staff had very poor customer service and the hotel had no reliable back up plan to the failed system, makes the hotel no better than a Motel 6.

Boston trip

We were on an east coast tour for about 6 weeks, Boston was one of our stops. After 4 days in Times Square we left for Boston and stayed in the Royal Sonesta Hotel, it was well prices compared to Manhattan and much easier going. It was a good place to stay with a car, but expensive parking, and there is no off street parking near by. A car is almost needed on that side of the bridge. Overall it was an average experience, kind of away from everything, you'll need a car and parking is expensive at the hotel.

Terrible

Definitely not a 4-star hotel as advertised on this site. Tiny dark rooms with amenities similar to those of Super-8 like chains.

Great location & fantastic view!

The hotel's location was perfect. Very close to a T stop and right on a river path that was great to walk along. It was nice that several food stalls in the mall across the street opened early for coffee, pastries, etc.

Prime location, great service

Spent three days at the Sonesta. Staff friendly and helpful, rooms great but a bit of noise next to the elevator. Still, rooms were clean and beds very comfy. Didn't like that they charged me another $27 per day for parking. Location is great with river views, mall across the street and it's also close to the subway. Overall, very nice stay!
