no hot water in the shower, but good bar
Mary Oct 11, 2009
This hotel is very masculine in decor (considering it was an old jail - maybe it makes sense). I did not like it. We were ... bothered quite a lot to discover at 5:00 pm when we were trying to take showers for the evening out that the water was ice cold. I called to complain. They were very polite and explained that they had not had hot water all day and were not quite sure when it would return. We would have appreciated knowing that when we checked in....maybe we would have gone elsewhere....Anyway, the gave us a complimentary breakfast (only for one, when my husband and I were both there), and offered us a complimentary private car ride to the airport to make up for the water situation. The bar in the lobby was so packed and crazy when we came in Friday night, I felt uncomfortable walking in to a sea of drunken twenty-somethings. I would not go back to this hotel ever. I prefer a place that is a bit more civilized!!

This is the 2nd time I've been to this hotel. I love the lobby area and also love how they have a restaurant that turns into ... a nice hotspot late at night. The location is great and the rooms were clean, but I must say that I expect a little more from the furniture in the room compared to the lobby of the hotel. I also like how in Clink restaurant, you can sit right next to a window with bars in it to get the "jailhouse" feel. Pretty Cool![...]It is very much within walking distance of a lot of restaurants and shopping. Oh, and I also love how they give you a glass of champagne upon checking in; nice touch!

Three of my friends and I were researching a city for a three day fall "girls weekend get-a-way". I was voted to find our ... destination and since I'm a big fan of the Cheap Tickets site, I started looking there first. One of the girls suggested the Liberty Hotel for our stay in Boston. I found an awesome rate for the hotel which included airfare with nonstop flights. When we stepped out of the taxi from the airport and looked at the restored Charles Street jail, we knew that we were in for an outstanding weekend. My compliments to the entire Hotel's staff, who offered such quality service. From the easy access location and the amazing restaurants and bars, one could not enjoy themselves any more than my and friends and I. I would highly recommend the Liberty Hotel to everyone.

I have traveled around the US as well as to 5 other countries, staying in many 4-5 start hotels. However, I have never ... written a review(good or bad). The Liberty has inspired me to share how amazing a hotel can be. The room we had was spotless (being slightly germ phobic I certainly checked). The staff was wonderfully helpful without being intrusive or fake. The food....divine! The location could not be more convenient. The view was marvelous (king corner room). All this and the architecture was breathtaking! We will NEVER stay at any other hotel in Boston because they would all PALE in comparison.

Not a 'Leading Hotel', just average
srio Aug 21, 2009
We chose this hotel for its beauty and views of the Charles River. We had a view of the brick wall of Mass General Hospital ... which is currently undergoing construction. The first concierge was not helpful and she seemed annoyed by my questions. If you are looking for a quick meal or snack after a long day of flying it's not going to happen. After walking down Charles Street as told by the concierge all we found was a CVS pharmacy and a 7/11, that did come in helpful later, but not if you're really hungry. No we weren't ready to eat at the trendy overpriced Clink or club Alibi. We finally retreated back to the hotel with our CVS sodas, there is no vending or gift shop in the hotel, and ordered 2 mini pizzas from room service which cost us $50. Not a good start, did I mention it was 93 degrees outside? The room is pretty and the bathroom is a spa, but the bed was a total disappointment. If you have any kind of back problem or used to sleeping on a pillow top, memory foam, or sleep number bed, this will be painful. The TV is small to our standard and lacks a decent interactive TV guide, and doesn't even get all major channels. The doormen were the most helpful and friendly. As tourists, we would have been better off staying by the marketplace where there are more food choices and attractions. Paying more doesn't guarantee luxury or convenience, just paying more.

This is a beautiful property. The service was top notch. From a complimentary glass of champagne at check in to a ... complimentary shuttle to Fenway Park (A chauffered Escalde SUV)..the service was really impressive. Our room was spotless although we had 2 full beds and would have preferred a King with a pull out for our teenage son. Another thing I appreciated was when I called the front desk for room service or to request a housekeeping item, the front desk person did not transfer me but gladly took care of my request. (They seem to know everything!) My son and husband loved this hotel and city so much, they want to make it an annual trip! The shopping is fabulous and all within walking distance. It was really a great 4 day vaca...wish it could have been longer.

We had a wonderful experience. I had outpatient surgery at mass general so we chose the hotel mainly for location. I was ... concerned it might be a little noisy for a post-hospital stay. Great Stay; Awesome Location! Wonderful!
Patricia Jul 28, 2009
This place was great. A beautiful facility with a staff that is attentive, responsive, and virtually invisible when you don't ... need them. The location is really the best thing about this hotel. It's right across the street from the subway and within walking distance of all of Boston's best destinations. From Beacon Hill we walked to the Boston Common, along the Charles River, down to Faneuil Hall and the Aquarium. I couldn't say more great things about this hotel.

Friendly (on occasion slightly unctuous) service, nicely decorated but very small room. I didn't like the big pump ... containers of bath gel etc. screwed to the shower wall...that felt cheap and inappropriate given the prices. Pleasant breakfast at Clink; we did not sample the other bars/restaurants in the hotel. Business Center had no chairs at the computers with internet access, which seemed inhospitable.

From the moment I gave the keys of the car to the hotel staff until I received them back again four days later, this hotel ... and its staff was the stuff of memories. Everyone was friendly, courteous, professional, and kind. The food at Clinks was excellent, the bar staff personable, the doormen respectful, the concierge knowledgeable. I didn't have to worry about a single thing, which meant that my time could be spent enjoying the people I was with and the activities were came to Boston to do.

We were greeted by [...] at the front desk. He offered us each a welcoming flute of champagne. (It was very nice.) When we ... got to our room we were blown away with the view, and the room! We had a tray of choclate covered strawberrys waiting on us. out the window we were looking at the skyline of Boston, and large part of the river, which was full of small sail boats at the time. We could see the train which offered transportation to anywhere we would have liked to go, but we chose to walk the city instead. The concierge was very helpfull with maps and suggestions of where to dine and checking prices and packages for the different things to do. We never once entered the front lobby, that we were not greeted by staff. If the had met us before they used our proper name, MR Pritzel, Mrs Pritzel. While I don't consider myself special they certainly made us feel like we were royalty. I would absolutly love to go to the Liberty again.

This was hands down, the best hotel I've stayed in. The food was ridiculously good. The service 5+stars. The location across ... the street from metro stop and Beacon Hill. I won't stay anywhere else ever again while in Boston if given the choice. The hotel is the old "city jail". It is way cool. Attention to detail is above and beyond. Liberty Hotel in Boston
Hockey Dad Apr 22, 2009
Very interesting place to stay. The lobby, restaurants and a few of the rooms of this hotel are built into the old Suffolk ... County jail, an historic stone building. Most of the guest rooms are in a separate tower but it is integrated well with the jail building so you don't feel as though you are leaving the main building. The interior of the lobby is very interesting. It hosts large groups on weekend nights as a local hot spot. The guest rooms are very nice. Many have a view over the Charles River. The hotel is right next to Mass General hospital but noise was minimal. The hotel is in the Beacon Hill neighborhood which has been nicely restored and has many interesting restaurants and shops and is a short walk to the Boston Common. A "T" stop is right in front of the hotel so local transportation is easy.
