A sad old hotel

Picked this hotel last minute based on its central location. The check in process took 20 minutes - not that we waited in line 20 minutes - actually checking us in took 20 minutes. They couldn't find the reservation even though I had the confirmation number and showed them my confirmation email. The clerk left and went into some mysterious back room for 10 minutes while the line behind us grew full of annoyed travelers. Eventually we got checked in a king room on the 11th floor. The halls smelled of cigarette smoke. The room was clean so there's a plus for them. The walls are paper thin - a woman in the room next to us sneezed and it sounded like she was in our closet! Bathroom is circa 1950's. Tiny, tiny toilet. Next time I would choose another hotel for sure. Nothing special here.

Storeyville - great night spot if you are 20 and like to wear shorts and sneakers and hang out in a black basement for your big night out on the town.

Pretty average but good location

The hotel is close to the train station which is a plus. It is also very close to the Boston common and the beginning of the freedom trail.

Classy Overnight Stay

My husband, 6 year old daughter and I stayed at the Boston Park Plaza for one night on our way to Martha's Vineyard. Short ride from airport, great location, gorgeous lobby (which made our daughter feel like a lucky character in Eloise or Disney's Zack & Cody), attractive clientele, and to top it off, GREAT local restaurant selection. In addition to all of the fine dining offered by the hotel, we realized that a hot little Italian Bistro named Erbaluce was literally a 5 minute walk from our room! Wonderful night. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

Terrible Wedding Location. STAY AWAY

The ballrooms are beautiful. However, the guest rooms are pretty standard and nothing that grand. I was expecting more. This review is specifically about Boston Park Plaza Hotel and using it as a venue for your wedding. Though beautiful, the hotel service in reservation, catering and banquet departments are terrible. We just had a 500+ person wedding where we rented out all the ballrooms and paid for over 15 guest rooms, despite such a large contract the service was horrendous. They initially messed up on our dates. The point of contact for our event changed several times - to the point where we literally had no idea who was helping us orchestrate this large event. Only after 5 voicemails and 3 emails did we finally get someone to reply. And now even after the event we are having a terrible time as they are incorrectly charging our credit cards, despite several phone calls to clarify the matter. No consistency in staff and nobody follows through. If you can avoid having your wedding here, please do so. Spare yourself the migraine. A wedding is stressful enough. You don't want the added stress of having a hotel which you are paying a huge premium to, to give you POOR service. Extremely disappointed.

Expected disappointment at this price

I was thrilled to get a last-minute low-ish price on a room in the very expensive center of Boston, and expected that the room would be small, etc. The room was tiny which was fine, but shared a wall with the extremely noisy elevators. I heard bumping and thumping all night. Granted this is a gorgeous old building, and the weather was excessive (low 100s) but the A/C could not catch up to keep the room cool. Service was slow: front desk staff were tolerably courteous, no more, no less. Again, the size of the room was to be expected, but there is something extraordinarily uncomfortable about being in a shower so small that you can't help but have your body rub against the shower liner, where no doubt hundreds of other guests have had a similarly intimate moment with the very same object. Ick!

Definitely not a 3 or 4 star establishment

I think this hotel's only marketability is it's name and location. There were holes in the walls, electrical outlets half way out of the walls, impractical toilets, TONS of air conditioning problems. The staff are never suprised with the problems that crop up.
