Anniversary nite out

Could not get thru on the phone with reservations to let them know I would be a late check in. Was not informed when I pulled up to valet parking about the $48 fee. Room was less than spectacular

Not what I expected

Was at this hotel 3 yrs ago & it was beautiful with huge mirrors & chandeliers in lobby as it has been for many years giving it that grand look when you walk in. This past week it now looks drab as they are remodeling it trying to give it a modern look. They covered up the mirrors replaced the chanaliers with some ugly light fixtures. Not to mention the room we got had old rickety furniture covering chips and scratches with a bad job of furniture marker and the bathroom had old ugly tile on floor yuck & rust in corners. Never come back again

great pet friendly hotel

We stayed at this hotel with our dog for one night and it was the perfect spot to get around Boston. There was also grassy areas for our dog close by which was really convenient.

Good Location, OK service

Pros: Good location, rooms are small but nice Cons: Thin walls (loud neighbors can be a problem), housekeeping less than stellar, might not have in-room locker (see Note below) If you're planning just a short stay in Boston, won't be in the hotel much, and can sleep through some noise from your neighbors, then this hotel is fine. We had a loud, boisterous group of people next door keeping us up one night because the walls didn't muffle it out much, but luckily they stopped around 1AM. But if that bothers you, seek a place with thicker walls or pray the rooms next to you are empty. Housekeeping was a bit below par. Sugar & other debris from making coffee was still left on the desk even after they "cleaned". Iron & iron board were left as is instead of returned to closet #though that could be a style thing, some hotels do some don't#. Supplies were replenished properly though, so I don't mean to say they were terrible...just not very thorough. NOTE ON IN-ROOM LOCKERS: During our stay #July 4th weekend 2014# we had no in-room locker despite it being advertised that their rooms have them. Was told it's because they're in the process of repairing/replacing them, and not every single room has one currently. They offered use of their safety deposit boxes near the concierge instead, which was fine but inconvenient as you need someone to let you in and sign things out every time.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Au Bon Pain around the corner is very helpful to pick up a quick coffee & breakfast or some sandwich wraps to pack for later in the day. The Parish Café nearby is excellent for lunch. Maggiano's across the street is OK but nothing special, though the service is very friendly there.

Historic Hotel vs Aging Lodging

First the positive: Fairly close to Back Bay area, close to restaurants, inexpensive compared to other similar hotels. Having said that, it is old and needs upkeep. Major problems with elevators, our thermostat was half melted, bathroom hot water heating system was poorly functional, the decor was sometimes broken, etc. Also, noisy outside with thin walls inside. Overall, if you are using them for lodging only, do it. If it is a destination in itself, look elsewhere

Location in heart of Downtown Boston, close to variety of excellent eateries, watering holes and all historic landmarks. Had a blast over 3 day visit, staff helpful and rooms clean and comfy.

Boston in July

Staff was not friendly, helpful or accommodating. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable, they were stuffed way too full. Someone pulled the emergency alarm at 3:30am. Everyone had to take the stairs all the way down to the lobby and the staff made no effort to catch the long lines before they made the long trek downstairs.
