Great place, inconsiderate loud guests

Nana Montana Dec 6, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel was great until about 2 AM when my nerves were shot due to one bachelorette party and one party for a 21 year old ... dude, both occurring on our floor (12th). . . much door slamming and pounding on doors between 2 AM and 4:30 AM as kids moved from room to room. . . draining. My husband snored through it, but I couldn't get my head far enough under the feather pillows. Security! what security?

Not Impressed

SNP995 Oct 19, 2009

My boyfriend and I took a trip earlier this year and paid half as much as we did here, but had a much better experience. We ... arrived at the hotel at 2:30 pm and were informed 1 of the 2 rooms we requested were not available because they had a full house the night before and were not able to get the room ready in time for us. And, they were not able to give us adjacent rooms as we requested...we didn't even have rooms on the same floor. Upon entering our room, I noticed a dead bug on the floor under the bathroom sink. Surprisingly, the bug was still there at the end of our 8 day stay, just pushed further back toward the wall. I commend the hotels efforts to become more green and limit refilling the linens on a daily basis, but they took the dirty linens and did not replace them. We ran out of toilet paper twice during our stay and had no spare rolls in the room. There is no ventilation in the bathroom as well. Their so-called "spa" is two rooms dedicated to massage in their fitness center and their massage therapists are not even Hyatt therapist, it is a 3rd party company they contract to do massage. The mini-bar is outrageous and unfortunately, being in the financial district, most places are closed on the weekends and require you to leave the area to find a good places to eat. Avenue One has good food and is somewhat reasonable but would not be realistic to eat at everyday. When making plans to leave, we asked the Concierge to assist us in reserving a taxi van for our trip back to the airport. We were informed that this could not happen, but we would be able to get a taxi outside the front doors upon our departure or could take the T. Good thing we were not depending on a taxi because leaving the hotel at 6 am on a Sunday morning...there are no taxis. O.k. maybe there was one, but that was for the seven people who were waiting. And even with that, the cab driver refused people with large luggage bags because he said he didn't have room. So we took the T. Which I would suggest to anyone else who plans on leaving the hotel on the weekend. It was only 2 bucks per person. Needless to say, I would not consider this hotel luxurious like their website likes to brag that it is, [...]

Would recommend to a friend!

The room was typical of a higher end hotel. The bed had an exceptional mattress topper, very cozy. Most notable was the ... location. I was able to walk all over downtown Boston, and also very close to an MTA (subway) stop. It was a little annoying always taking an elevator to the lobby and then another to the rooms. But on the other hand it added to the sense of security. Concierge attendants were very knowledgeable and informative. I didn't eat there so can't comment on that.

Stayed here for our first trip to Boston. Only a couple of blocks from several T line stations which made getting around ... Boston very easy without rental car. Also just a few blocks from Boston Common (the park) Good neighborhood, felt very safe walking around at night (well lit) Staff was all very nice and helpful. And the bed there was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Both my boyfriend and I agreed. Continental breakfast or an airport shuttle are the only things that could improve this place.

Nice hotel. Fantastic location!

Amy Sep 14, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Very nice hotel. Clean and quiet. Best of all' it's centrally located to everything. I saw Boston on foot and didn't need ... a vehicle until it came time to fly home. Two complaints: 1. The lack of shuttle service to and from the airport. I have stayed at much less expensive hotels in the past that have offered shuttle service and am disappointed that the Hyatt did not. However, they were excellent at arranging car service for me. 2. The fee for wifi. Again, having stayed at less expensive hotels and having this ammenity for free, makes it increasingly more difficult to pay for this at the Hyatt in a $200+ room. Fortunately, there is so much to do in Boston that I didn't even miss it and I had my iphone for any quick internet searches I needed.

Good location, but take a good map.

kar Sep 1, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I found this hotel to be a bit much for someone who is only there to sleep, however it is in a wonderful location to get to ... all points in Boston by the T. If you are walking, a good map may be in order. This hotel is located in the downtown financial district and the streets do not follow any logical layout. The room that I was assigned was on a lower (6th) floor so there wasn't much of a view and the 6th floor is also the gym/pool floor so there was a lot of noisy foot traffic while heading to the elevators. One nice feature that can sometimes be lacking in a high rise hotel, was the fact that the windows can be opened in the room. It was a nice cool weekend and it was nice to get a fresh breeze into the room.

Bad Experience at the Hyatt Boston

Nell Aug 14, 2009

I was expecting a lot more from this hotel since it was a part of the Hyatt chain. I found staff (besides the doormen, who ... were always polite) to be very rude and unhelful. Our room was fine and pretty spacious. However I was traveling with two other people and we only had two double beds. When I requested a roll out bed, the hotel informed me that they could not put an extra bed in the room as it was a fire violation in Boston. They were very abrupt and unapologetic about it. Nowhere on their website does the hotel state this information. And they did not try to compensate for the lack of it in any way. We found the beds to be uncomfortable and the pillows old and capable of giving neck cramps. The bathroom was nice and very spacious but the hotel's water pressure was horrible. Showers tended to last a long time as you were constantly hopping out because the water would turn scaldingly hot in the middle of your shower. Beware of the gift shop, which charges $4 for a bottle of iced tea and has employees that will not even look at you as they ring up your purchase. The hotel was in an ugly part of town with no real dining or shopping options nearby. Positives included close proximity to the T, a Boston Common Coffe Co. only a few blocks away, and self check-out. Overall a very disappointing experience from a well-known hotel brand. I would not stay at a Hyatt Regency again.

Dining tip, Short Walk

Nice Thai restarant just a few blocks away. . . very good. Tops in Improper Bostonian survey, 2009.

Dining tip, Short Walk

We wanted good seafood. Consierge gave a number of options and was helpful in creating a quality dining experience.

Nightlife tip, Short Walk

The Hyatt is located right in downtown Boston. Very convenient and a short walk away to nightlife.

Dining tip, Short Walk

There are plenty of delicious restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. It's better to walk to find food because parking in the city is terrible and plus you need to pay a fee to keep coming in and out of the hotel parking garage.

--Jimmy, Rahway, NJ Nov 8, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Walk

The downtown crossing was a short distance to the hotel and most of the subways could be caught there. This is a cheap way to get from one place to another.

Dining tip, Long Walk

Unless you eat at Avenue One, plan on a decent walk to find a good place to eat.

--SNP995, New Oxford, PA Oct 19, 2009

Dining tip

Any dining other than fast food seemed like it was hard to find.

--nic, st. petersburg, fl Oct 18, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Walk

Just steps from the T, you dont need taxis at all.

--weekend traveler, San Juan, PR Oct 14, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Walk

So see the aquarium.

--Jim's Boston reunion, Durham, NC Oct 4, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Walk

--B-ball Mom, NJ Oct 3, 2009

Time savers tip, Short Walk

almost right above the Red line 'T' stop, would have been helpful to know that beforehand

--Trey, Ellicott City, MD Sep 10, 2009

Dining tip, Short Drive

We went to the Top of the Hub in the Pru. Would highly reccomend (sp) this dining experience. Also, we took a bike service to get there. Way fun...

--Markus, Newburyport, ma and Tempe, Az Sep 6, 2009

Time savers tip, Short Walk

This hotel is located close to several different T stop stations and made it very easy to get to all parts of Boston very quickly.

--kar, Iowa Sep 1, 2009

Entertainment tip, Long Walk

you can get half price tickets to Blue Man Group at Bostix the day of the event.

--Lynn, Buffalo, NY Aug 23, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

The Freedom Trail is amazing. It was only a 3 mile walk, but you get to see Paul Revere's house, the Old North End Church where they hung the lanters to alert us that the English were coming, and many other great sites. The walk is free, I would buy a book about the sites that you can get at the Vistor's Center down at Boston Common.

--Michael S, Tucson, AZ Aug 3, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

You can easily walk to the T and ride to anywhere; however, it is located convenient for walking to many downtown attractions.

--mom, boston Jul 13, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Walk

DON'T park at the hotel. You can park across the street for $22.00 a night. That is a $20.00 per night savings. Or better yet, don't rent a car. You won't need one. Everything you can get to by walking or taking the 'T'.

Time savers tip, In Hotel

Receipted baggage after check out and picked it up after we went sightseeing.

--Innkeeper who knows better, Melbourne, Florida Jul 6, 2009

Money savers tip

take the subway everywhere - very easy to use and inexpensive way to travel

--tourist, Denver, Co Jul 5, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip

The subway and bus system are good ways to get around Boston. Also, the Old Town Trolley tour stops at most points of interest. Folks in Boston were friendly and helpful. A tour of Fenway Park is a must see for baseball fans. Great family vacation city.
