Great location, fine hotel

This hotel was good overall and I'd stay there again. The only real downside was that our room was exceptionally hot, but it wasn't bad enough for us to actually complain. Location is really very good, many great restaurants, easy 30 minute train ride to airport and close to plenty of Boston locations.

okay...

The Shawmut Inn reminded me of places that I have stayed at in other countries (like one across from the train station in Rome). The room was large and had a little kitchenette in it with a fridge that was great for keeping leftovers in. The bed was comfortable enough, and the ceilings were really high. It just seemed a little shabby overall---the walls hadn't been painted in awhile, there was dust in the corners, the windows were dirty, etc. I actually feel bad writing anything mean about the place, because it seemed like the staff really cared about the place and were attentive and kind!

Right across from Garden... great spot!

Hard to find, but great location since we were going to a Bruins Game at the Garden. There was no flag out front.. just a banner up on the building that we almost drove right by. It was clean inside though and the room was surprisingly very spacious with a nice bathroom. It was a bit noisy as we were right above a couple of bar/restaurants. Parking is a little tricky... we had to make sure the hotel discount rate was applied for our '24 hours' for our hotel stay and then prorated for additional time that we were parked. They were trying to charge us for an addt'l 24 hours in the Gov't Ctr Garage.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market were a few blocks away walking. We also walked to the Aquarium and to the Farmer's Market by the Harbor. We went into the restaurants close to the hotel and they were reasonable with good food.

Bad Timing

Bad timing, no air conditioning not installed yet. Parking is a Boston problem, parking structure 3 blocks away. No Soap, no excuse.

A little hot

We went for my sister's bachelorette party. It was in a great location, walking distance to Fanuel Hall. The hotel staff was great, they mentioned that the AC didn't work, we thought it would be fine with the windows open but it was still really hot, part of our group canceled their room. Everything would have been fine if the AC worked. The rooms were updated and clean. We needed more towels but the cleaning staff wasn't in so we had to wait until they got in to get towels.

Conveniently located but low on service

The lack of service at the hotel was somewhat problematic. I became quite ill on my trip and needed to go to an emergency room or urgent care clinic. The front desk staff members were of no help, and in fact, were quite rude.

Convenient to the new "Garden"

Deskclerk [...] was very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgable of the area. We were in Boston for an event at the TD Northbank Center (new "Garden") which is located across from the hotel. This made for a less stressful visit because we didn't have to battle traffic and find our way around Boston. My major complaints are the lack of proper air ventilation/inefficient air conditioning system; breakfast ends at 9:30 am, too early for someone visiting. All staff were very friendly, helpful, courteous and respectful. Kudos on the dedication of the staff! It was noisy; however, the hotel is not responsible for the City of Boston continually digging up the city's streets. It is the nature of the beast.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

If you choose to park, walk, and stay in Boston for an event at the new "Garden", make sure you eat a good meal while the local restaurants are open (there is a decient selection). Otherwise, you will have to hire a cab to take you where dining is available after 1 am.

Perfectly adequate

In Boston two days, one night for business and stayed at the HIE at the recommendation of a colleague who had experienced great service there. Didn't have the need for or occasion to experience their service but staff seemed attentive and polite. This one is located a block away from Boston Gardens and there were no events going on at the time so I can't vouch for what the experience would have been like were there crowds. It was also literally around the corner from our office so very convenient. Will probably stay there again should I have the need.

Holiday Inn Express-Across from Stadium

Very small hotel signage, had to drive up one way street several times to find the front door. It is a 2 floor hotel, but is in a great location if you are planning on going to the Boston Garden - right across the street. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly. No bar or food, other than small continental breakfast in a.m. Some popular Boston bars (Harp, The Fours..) are one block away. Other than finding the place, only complaint is that we booked/paid for a King bed online through [...] but were given a Queen, which should have been $20 cheaper.
