Excellent location & staff, but not good

Hotel is ideally located. Rooms are very small without room to move around luggage, etc. Lobby, elevator landings, and other need new carpets or serious cleaning. Staff is wonderful. Property is not in good shape. No NPR reception. No I would not stay there again; no I would not recommend it. Room was ok, but everything else was depressing.

Great location but a fair hotel

The location of this Hotel is in a great, safe, neighborhood. It was a short walk to MBTA stops. The hotel was advertised a boutique hotel, but the rooms where closet/dorm size at best. It was a very cramped stay with just the two of us and 1 piece of luggage. If you plan on spending much time/or any time for that matter, in the room look somewhere else. Along with the exceptionally small room, the walls where paper thin. I could hear the blow dryer from 2 doors down. I had to ask for a fan to drown out some of the noise (the fan in the room was broken), so I could get some sleep. Just because it has a fresh coat of paint in contemporary colors and LCD TV, does not make it boutique. It was more like a brothel.

Chandler Inn Hotel Stay Fall 2010

Room was small but clean. Air a little stuffy. Thankfully they put us in a renovated room not the older ones. In walking distance from shops/restaurants on Tremont and Newbury Street. Please note there is an extremely loud gay bar beneath the hotel.

Loved it

The hotel was everything we expected and more. We were visiting our son at BU for Parent's Weekend. It was small as noted in other reviews, but very charming, tastefully appointed, clean and the staff always available and helpful. Great free coffee machine in lobby. The location was convenient to many areas like the Theater District, Copley Square and the T line but also private, tucked away homey. Brick sidewalks, trees and little restaurants nearby. Will surely go there again next time in Boston and have no reservations about recommending to others. The only complaint we had was that the satellite TV was very difficult to make work properly. I am fairly tech savvy and it confounded us the whole time. Almost missed the NLCS.

Great place!

This place was perfect for me. I came in by train to the Back Bay station, and The Chandler was nicely close, and also close to Green and Orange subway lines. Two good breakfast places and a 7-11 right around the corner. Area is safe to jog in, and the South End and the city are both very beautiful. It was great to stay in a place that was not generic and that had its own character. My for purposes, visiting Boston's art museums, I couldn't have asked for more.

Great deal for a great location

I didn't think I could get a clean, comfortable and affordable hotel that was close to downtown and the T before I found the Chandler Inn. I didn't have to spend my vacation traveling to and from different parts of the city, so you can maximize your enjoyment. You're in the heart of the South End, a vibrant and welcoming gay community, and just a few blocks from the rest of the city. The rooms are small, but modern and comfortable, great for single travelers or couples. This will be the first place I look at for my next trip to Boston.

There's no need to rent a car to travel in and around Boston--you've got the T, MBTA buses and walking for low and no cost respectively. Trust me: if you get a car, you'll be spending hours looking for scarce, expensive parking and wondering when you get to actually enjoy your trip.
