Overview

History buffs appreciate both the location and original architecture of the AMES in the Byzantine-Romanesque Ames building. Built in 1893 as headquarters for the Ames farm equipment empire, the boutique hotel showcases mosaic tile ceilings, ornate staircases, carved marble fireplaces and dramatic arched windows. Designer David Rockwell added clean modern finishes and eye-catching decor. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel neighbors Faneuil Hall, Beacon Hill, Quincy Market, Boston Common and Boston Harbor.

Rooms

Ten room categories offer a tailored experience in 114 rooms at AMES. Clean lines and an uncluttered minimalist environment mix with 12- to 14-foot ceilings, a flat-screen HDTV, iPod docking station and a mini bar. Enjoy Molton Brown bath products in the attractive glass-and-marble, walk-in shower with rain showerhead. Suites offer superior city views and more ornate historical details including original fireplaces.

Chic Boutique Hotel in a Great Location

Would recommend Sun, Jun 21, 2015
Whenever I see the term 'Boutique Hotel' I automtacially think its going to be overpriced and pretentious. However this isnt the case with the Ames Boston. Clean, sizeable rooms with a large ceiling and a spotless bathroom was my experience. Add to that the location which puts the Ames near to the common, the harbour and the North Side and you really cant go wrong. The only let down was the weather but I wont lay the blame with that on the Ames! Great hotel.

Hip Hotel in Central Location

Would recommend Thu, Jun 4, 2015
Ames Boston Hotel is a hip, botique-style hotel in the middle of downtown Boston. I've seen minimalist used to describe the room decor. I guess that's true, but the hotel had all the items I'd expect in a 4-star property. I liked the hardwood floors in the guestrooms -- I just think they add to the cleanliness.Be sure to notice the mirrors as you get off the elevator ... there is a hidden hologram inside them! I'd certainly recommend the Ames Boston Hotel. Someday, I may even be cool enough to fit in!

Great value and location

Would recommend Tue, Apr 21, 2015
We were only in Boston for 3 days and 2 nights after spending a week in Cape Cod. Our stay in Ames Hotel was excellent. Great value for the great location! Right in the heart of historic sites. The only issue we had was the slow internet and the cable where we ordered to see a movie but the channel kept switching to a preview and never got to finish the movie till the following day. But they compensated by giving us free breakfast which was really cool! The staff was great!

good location

Would recommend Wed, Jan 7, 2015
walking distance from public transportation - Amtrack station(South station), aquarium, wharf, shopping spot - downtown crossing, parks, etc. modern design, high ceiling. However little noisy at a night because it is almost center of city. it was no blocking from bright lights - neon signs because it didn't have dark courtains, just one layer white courtain.

Boston night out

Would recommend Sat, Aug 23, 2014
The Ames is a swanky little boutique. We had the room with the glass shower and per other reviews I requested a higher floor to get away from the street noise. We enjoyed this hotel and would return! We did not eat at the hotel and parked at the public garage on beacon.
