Budget hotel in New Orleans

This hotel is walking distance from the french quarter, just off of Canal St. Yes, there was a slight mildew-y smell in the room, but for the price, I could handle that on a short stay. The hotel was truly immaculate and beautiful otherwise. I got an external window, however the window does not open. Oh well. There's a sushi place in the building downstairs and other food nearby as well as a Walgreens and CVS. The front desk staff gave me menus to order delivery food when I arrived late at night, and a map and directions the next morning. There also appeared to be a business center with computer use and printing. I didn't use it, but it looked like the computer use was free.

A hidden gem...

I stayed at the Baronne Plaza for three nights, taking in New Orleans. Location was great for the price, as it was literally a five-minute walk to Bourbon Street and the waterfront. Rooms were spotless, staff was attentive and helpful, and the art deco touches and internal open-air splendor added class. The only downside is parking ($20/night + LA state taxes to use Baronne garage), BUT keep in mind that there is *no* free parking in the vicinity, and from my own legwork and peeking in parking garages as I walked past, I could see that the fees at Baronne Plaza were on par with hotels in a several block radius. Even with parking, this place was a great value, and I will definitely stay there again.

Great affordable place

Excellent location, nice big rooms. Room interior is simple, basic, but functional. What else do you need in a wonderful city like New Orleans? A hotel is for sleeping and taking a shower.

Great location

The hotel was clean and the bedding very comfy. You cant beat the location since its within walking distance to just about everything. The only thing missing was a pool, but theres so much to do and see in New Orleans that you just might not have time to swim anyway!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

By buying gallon jugs of water at a nearby Walgreens saved quite a bit of money verses buying small bottles around the same price...A must in the heat!

Perfect

The hotel was very beautiful and clean. Beds were comfortable. Didn't need much assistance from staff who were very helpful and courteous. My next visit to NO will indeed include my staff here. I would recommend it to anyone. I want the staff to know how satisfied I was with the stay and would like to say Thank You!

Good location for the price

Good location, in walking distance to most attractions. Good price and staff helpful. No pool, no plush amenities, but free internet was a plus!

The Bad and the Ugly

The first thing you learn when checking into this hotel is that they do not have any street level parking--none. They do however have a parking garage that is the size of a sardine can that the hotel will graciously allow you to use for the small sum of $25.00 per day. When I say small I mean small. It was full when we checked in and had to park at a public parking garage a block and a half away. Imagine the fun of toting your belongings that distance in 95+ degree heat with about 80% humidity. We were able to park in the garage the next day but our bill for parking for 5 days was almost $150.00. That was a blow to the vacation fund. Check In was a lengthy process. There was only one person checking people in and we had to stand in line for about 30 minutes. The room itself was not bad but was cramped. The bed took up about 85% of the room. We also noticed that there seemed to be a problem with hot water. During your shower the water would mysteriously disappear for about 20-30 seconds and then come back on and we had to take several showers with luke warm water at best. One thing that would have made the room better would have been a small fridge. We like to carry soda's and snacks on our trips and had no way to keep them cool. We stayed on the top floor of the hotel and staying cool was not an issue in the room but the public hallways were a different story. The public areas on our floor were uncomfortably warm. This hotel was rated at 3 stars but I don't think we will be recommending this hotel to anyone. The one advantage of this hotel is that it is only 1 block from the French Quarter and within easy walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful.
