Historic hotel with contemporary flair near Riverwalk, downtown sites

Three historic coffee warehouses were combined and repurposed to create this unique Arts District hotel. Modern appointments join original hardwood floors, beamed ceilings and recycled wrought iron for a completely contemporary feel. The National Park Service has certified the restoration, and the result is a one-of-a-kind hotel in a great location.  The hotel has easy access the convention center, French Quarter or cruise terminal.  Riverwalk and its paddleboat rides are at the doorstep.

Highlights
  • In-room spa services
  • 24-hour fitness center
  • New Orleans Saints-themed sports bar
Rooms

The Ambassador has been recognized for its re-use of materials. The old-made-new element is apparent in its 175 guest rooms with kings, doubles or queens. In the rooms, wrought iron four-poster beds welcome each guest.  Gleaming hardwood floors, exposed brick walls and high timber ceilings lend an open feeling. All rooms feature ceiling fans, oversized executive desks, irons and ironing boards, coffee makers, safes and high-speed Internet access (covered in resort fee).

Features

The Arts District location is convenient for tourists and business travelers alike.  Downtown New Orleans, The French Quarter, Central Business District, Riverwalk, museums and convention center are an easy walk away.  The developers took great pains to retain the original look of the former coffee warehouses. Visitors can soak up the historic feel while enjoying modern conveniences. Saints fans can walk to the Superdome. Valet parking is available (fees apply).

Over priced stay!

The complimentary breakfast was in the hallway next to a construction area, the halls were dark and creepy, and the service did not make up for short comings.

Best Mardi Gras We Could Ask For!!

We got to the hotel early and were hoping they could get us in. They not only got us in early but ready to go with Daquiris in thr lobby and we were off to the parades! The staff was so nice and very funny! The breakfast was great and we loved the rooms! The bed was super comfy and the whole room was clean! Love this hotel and I plan on staying there again as well as telling my friends about it!

Beware of parking

My boyfriend and I stayed at the ambassador for Mardi gras this weekend. The parade caused most of the streets to be blocked, so we called for some directions on how to get there. While the woman on the phone was friendly and patient, she led us to the complete wrong side of town. Furthermore, when we arrived at the hotel, we were told that we could park in the parking lot directly across the street and charge it to the room. This is NOT true, it is NOT their lot. My car got booted and the hotel was not even willing to call the tow company and explain the miscommunication. It took my boyfriend dragging the towing guy in to get them to even address the situation. Other than that, the room was nice & modern. Good price for location and occasion. Staff was friendly but unclear about almost everything. They are also remodeling, so don't expect a grand entrance. I would stay again, but I would park somewhere else!

It would have been a perfect vacation if the hotel was renovated, breakfast room too small.

Excelent modest hotel

I dislike big hotels, Hiltons, Sheratons, etc. In spite of one afternoon, when the noise of a nearby sports bar was unnaceptable, I really enjoyed my 5 nights at the Ambassador. Customers who enjoy the luxurious environment of big hotels would not be that confortable at the Ambassador. I love the location, halfway between the French Quarter and the Convention Center. I would like to stay here during my next trip to New Orleans.

No wonder it was so cheap!

The description on the internet site is nothing like the hotel itself. The hotel is under renovations. Dust is everywhere and the building has not been maintained. There is no restaurant, no bar, and none of the things that come with a hotel in the downtown area. The rooms are in poor condition. I had to change rooms. Even the room that I moved to (supposedly better) was in bad shape! The staff, well needs much training! If you only want a bed and a bath, you will love this place.

Not suitable for any purpose.

This place was too dirty and in such disrepair that its only purpose would be as a place to crash for one night. You would find more accommodating staff and have a more relaxed stay at the Days Inn. The only redeeming quality was that the building is over 150 years old--that is if you like the historical nostalgia of the city, but the entire furnishings are run down from the 1980's. There is only one entry to this maze, and we saw 4 different couples complaining in our 3 night stay.
