Great hotel, great staff, great location

This hotel was terrific! Staff were friendly and gracious, and the location was ideal. A long weekend away from real life was needed, and this was the perfect place to relax and experience the French Quarter. While nestled in the city, the hotel itself was quiet. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the pool refreshing. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a long weekend away, and stay here. You won't be disappointed.

Great Location, but Loud Room

Close to everything in the Quarter and helpful staff, but the room was at the top of the stairs where we heard every passerby. Could hear the conversation of our next door neighbors from in our room. Great if you don't plan to stay in the room long, but don't count on a great night's sleep

Perfect location but small, windowless room

We came for JazzFest and the location of the St. Helene couldn't be better -- right in the heart of the French Quarter and easy walking distance (3 or 4 blocks) to the JazzFest shuttle, Bourbon Street, and everything else that's fun about the Quarter. The continental breakfast was nice, too, with cereals, granola, yogurt, pastries and decent coffee. I just want to make two important observations about the hotel: First, there are several rooms that do not have external windows -- the room we had, for example, had a window that looked into the internal stairwell, which meant that we kept it closed and shuttered at all times. I didn't think I would care about this but it was odd to not be able to see outside. Next time I'd get a room with an outside-looking window. Second, the room was clean and nice but small. No problem for my wife and me but tight quarters and no desk at all.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

We found some folks this year who rented bikes to ride to the JazzFest from the Quarter. We took the shuttle, as we always have, but plan next time on renting bikes and riding to the fairgrounds. It's an easy, short ride, no hills, and would be a fun way to see NOLA rather than fooling with the shuttle, esp. when you leave the Fest in the evening (long lines).

Enjoyable experience - great location

This hotel is superbly located in the French Quarter. The staff was friendly and helpful. However, the bed was uncomfortable, and the walls and doors were a bit dirty and tired. Our room was a courtyard suite which opened onto the courtyard, which meant we could hear every word spoken outside and every splash in the pool. No reserved parking at this hotel, and the nearby parking was extremely expensive, even for the French Quarter, at $35 overnight.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

If you fly don't rent a car - parking is extortionate and you don't need one to get around the French Quarter.

A week in N'awlins

This hotel is located in the French Quarter right near everything people usually go to see. The room was smaller than most hotel rooms but honestly you're going to be walking around and seeing the city, all you need is a bed to sleep in and a bathroom to get ready. The pool was also a nice amenity. The only complaint was the broken elevator. We were on the 3rd floor but it was only a problem when we checked in and checked out. We are planning to visit this city in the future and would definitely stay here again.

Excellent

Loved it! Would definately go back. Perfect for two, small and quaint but when u don't plan on spending much time at the hotel a clean small room is all you need! It was in a historic New Orleans style building and it was beautiful.

Perfect Location

We stayed 9 nights at St. Helene and had a wonderful holiday. I think that the location and the staff is what makes this place so special. A dip in the pool was also a very welcome refreshment. My only gripe would be that the room we stayed in had no soundproofing so we could hear everything in the room next door, which happened to be constant coughing and a loud TV. However, you can't hear noise from the street and anyway we spent most of our time exploring and enjoying the city as it is at the doorstep of the hotel. We'll be back!
