Hopeful
French Quarter First
The hotel is in an excellent location! It has a wonderful courtyard with beautiful trees. It is an old building that has a wonderful atmosphere. The bed was terrible so we did not sleep well. The linens were also of a low quality. I was really disappointed because everything else was really nice. I would think that would be an easy fix, but they did not go to the effort.

Great French Quarter location and atmosphere!
Place D'Armes has that unique New Orleans French Quarter style. This was our second time there and love the location. It is away from the noise of Bourbon Street but close enough to walk the streets for shopping, dining, etc. The staff was super friendly and efficient. Our car was parked right away and luggage brought to the room soon after. However, the only drawbacks are low lighting, the lack of a full length mirror, and no room refrigerator.

Both good and bad
Some of the hotel staff was very curt, and would not let me finish a question without interrupting with an answer that was both inadequate and somewhat impatient. However, other staff, particularly the night staff, was gracious and helpful when I was looking for dining options. My big disappointment was the room: a blind room, with NO window. There was no warning of it when I arrived. The room was very dark, and the lighting completely inadequate. The bed was made with only a bottom sheet, and I had to wait a long time for the situation to be corrected. This was particularly hard because I was actually sick and generally exhausted, and needed to rest. The so-called 'Continental breakfast was very mediocre: huge old and tasteless croissants, except for the orange juice that was good.

Grand Location - Good Hotel
The Place D'Armes is situated in a perfect location for exploring the French Quarter. It is half a block from Jackson Square and close to everything else - Chartres and Royal St. sandwich the hotel with Bourbon St. an easy walk yet distant enough to avoid the bedlam. I've stayed at the Place D'Armes twice before and have never regretted the choice. The hotel rooms vary dramatically as does the reception one receives at the front desk on checking in. This time the check in was mostly disinterested bordering on cold. The rooms were large though showing their age with torn wall paper and in need of a refurbishment. Location being everything, however, one really doesn't stay long in the rooms anyway. Overall, even given the tired quality of the furnishings, the rooms and amenities are comfortable. The continental breakfast is a plus as are the courtyards which provide a relaxing and atmospheric shelter from the frantic energy of the Quarter.

downfalls
The main downfall was that the bed was uncomfortable and the airconditioning unit was noisy. Otherwise for the cost it was a good value.

Great location
Great location. But its an older building (which is not all bad as it has character) and the maintenance/cleanliness could be better. The room is nicely furnished, but somewhat crowded due to its smaller size...okay for a couple, but no more. We had to change rooms the last night as a mouse ran into our 2d floor room and we didn't want him in our luggage, etc.. The courtyard is beautiful, in the New Orleans style. Biggest complaint, the maid service wasn't very good and the kitchen staff wasn't very friendly.
