Excellent location

We have stayed at this hotel on previous trips and just love the location by Jackson Square. Easy to walk around the French Quarter and see the sights and easy to get back to safely at night. Nice pool and courtyard area to sit and read for a while during the day. We stayed in an interior room this time without a window and although it was fine it really is much nicer to have a window or be off the courtyard. The rooms are not perfect - a little mildew in the shower, not the best mattresses (but much better this year than last). If you want a fancy room you might look for something more upscale, but we don't spend our time in NOLA in the room so we will stay here again!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Coop's Place is my favorite place to eat. The jambalaya is fantastic. This trip a local suggested I try the smoked duck Quesadillas. They were outstanding too!

A NOLA first timer...

I had never stayed so close to Jackson Square or the French Market during previous trips to New Orleans and after this visit - not quite sure why! I brought my niece for her 21st birthday and we had a great time - N'Awlins style!

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Try something other than Bourbon Street while you're there... Frenchman is a close (and safe!) walk from Jackson Square - you might find something off the beaten path that you might enjoy even more!

Wonderful location and staff

The location is ideal for enjoying The French Quarter an easy walk to every thing. We rented a car for part of the stay and there is parking available for $25.00 a day. Our room was spotless and comfortable. There was no window but that was not a problem since we were only in it at night and it was so quiet. We will stay at the Place d'Armes again.

Great location, lovely people

The hotel is historic and lovely, and in a super location--I could walk to all the major sights quite easily. The staff were superb as well--very friendly. At $70, it was a great deal for the money as well. My only complaint, besides the fact that the pool wasn't clean, is that I didn't realize "interior room" meant a room with no windows! That was definitely a strange experience.

Perfect!

The Place D' Armes is an excellent value. Super location. Well maintained facility. Super comfortable with a local flair. The housekeeping staff was on top of their game. I give the place top marks for being a romantic get away as well. I lived in the Quarter for 3 years prior to Katrina. When I return home to New Orleans The Place is my hotel of choice. For breakfast or lunch try Stanley across the street. It is tops as well. Only complaint - Have the front desk refraim from referring to people who book on Orbitz as 3rd party guest and treat them like and refer to them as GUEST as we are the people who insure you salary

Great price, Great location!

I've stayed in, at least, 13 different hotels in the French Quarter. I would rate this one as either my 2nd or 3rd favorite. Excellent location, right off Jackson Square. The price was great, especially splitting it with a friend. The hotel has so much character. And, yes, many places in the FQ does, but, this hotel has several buildings which makes it unique. I enjoyed going down the old, spiral, staircases instead of using the elevator. The room was clean and roomy, even with 2 beds. I do not remember anything negative about the room, or hotel in general.

It is what it is

Located right near Jackson Square, this old timey hotel provides everything you need for staying in the French Quarter. Good sized room (just not vertically, watch your head tall folks) but don't waste your time in the hotel if you're visiting the French Quarter. As quiet a hotel as you can find in the French quarter.

Perfect Location

This hotel offers breakfast of rolls, coffee, tea & juice but otherwise has no dining facilities. It is made up of a series of connected 18th & early 19th century buildings situated around 2 courtyards. There is a parking garage & the desk is happy to make reservations for you. The attraction for me is that the hotel is in the very center of the Quarter. The Cathedral & Jackson Square are steps outside the door. Cafe du Monde & the Mississippi are a block away. The shops of Royal Street are half a block away & the shops of Canal Place are a 10 minute walk away. There are several historic houses & buildings, the Aquarium, the new Insectarium, 5 used book shops & two very good local theatre groups within walking distance. And if the hotel has no restaurants several of the finest restaurants are within walking distance.

good locale

this hotel was located smack in the middle of the french quarter. very convenient to just walk outside and go. It was a nice area and was very historic looking with a quartyard and tall ceilings and windows. The only thing i recommend is not getting a room by the street. I have read, and now know it is true, that the trash peeps come by about 2am and late goers home are talking and venturing by your window as well. The parking was $28, but very convenient and they will get it for you at any time. There was also an old smell to the hotel, but i expected and respected its age. You will want to take pictures if you stay here, just don't have high expectations.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

everything is a short walk from hotel. You have to have the traditional beignets at Cafe Du Monde. And just hit a local eating spot for the best foods like the Acme Oyster House. Great food! Then, for some great live tunes, atmosphere and no cover, go to fritzel's jazz pub. Just walk around and take it all in.
