“Belle of New Orleans” offers genteel luxury fit for the fab traveler

The best of New Orleans is only minutes away from this regal-looking hotel.  Le Pavillon was built in 1907 and restored to its original glory in the 1970s. It evokes the grand style of Napoleonic France. Top-hatted doormen welcome guests to a lobby filled with antiques and lit by 11 crystal and bronze chandeliers. An 1880s hand-carved bar, salvaged from one of Al Capone's Chicago haunts, is right at home in the Big Easy. This hotel is adjacent to the French Quarter and eight blocks from the Morial Convention Center. Bourbon Street and the Superdome are nearby.

Highlights
  • Member of the National Register of Historic Places
  • Rooftop pool and patio with sweeping views of downtown New Orleans and the Mississippi River
  • PB&J served with cold milk and hot chocolate nightly at 10 p.m.
  • Non-smoking
Rooms

The hotel has 213 rooms and seven suites, many appointed with antiques and collectibles.  All rooms feature handmade draperies, plush bedding, hand-carved mahogany armoires, 32-inch flat screens, automated mini bars, complimentary Internet and thick terry robes.  Hand-painted vignettes on the ceiling and ceiling fans distinguish deluxe rooms. Glass-enclosed showers with oversized showerheads are an added perk.

Features

The rooftop terrace is an urban oasis featuring a heated swimming pool, hot tub, private cabanas and dining under the stars. The award-winning Crystal Room serves breakfast -- including a bananas Foster waffle -- lunch and dinner in a palatial setting. Inquire about special wedding packages.

25th Anniversary

A quiet hotel a few blocks from the French Quarter. A nice place to unwind after the noise of Bourbon Street. A nice roof top pool with great views. The hot tub could use an upgrade to match the pool. The PB&J sandwiches are a nice touch. The WIFI was spotty and a little slow. We would definitely stay here again.

Classy Nola

I've stayed at plenty of Hotels in New Orleans and this is easily the classiest one of the bunch. They even have a special peanut butter and jelly sandwich late night snack time every single night in the lobby. If that isn't worth booking right this minute, I don't know what is.

Great place for a first visit.

It was our first trip to New Orleans and we were a little anxious but we were soon put at ease by the employees there. We got there before 10 am, they kept our bags and gave us assistance to local attractions and restaurants took our cell phone number and sent a text when a room became available. Had a free business center for me to use and print boarding passes for the return trip. The employees were always helpful, always friendly and never failed to give me the answer I needed. The day we left, they secured our bags and let us tour for hours to complete our first visit with no concerns . A little pricey from what I am used to but for the location and charm, still worth it.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

We took a carriage ride on our last night and the guide was very informative on local "hole in the wall" restaurants. We tried a couple but wished we had done that the first night and really tested his knowledge. If I could do the trip again, I would have taken the carriage ride the first night we were there.

Nostalgia Trip

Hotel was selected as part of trip package. It's a beautiful old building, inconspicuously brought up to date. Staff is courteous, friendly and helpful. Food we tried was very good, but mostly ate outside the French Quarter (tourist trap). Much better seafood in outlying towns. Room was attractive, spouse thought bed was too soft. One of the table lamps did not work, but really didn't need it, as there were sufficient lamps without it. Price was fair in view of ambiance and location. Enjoyed the stay, spent the days revisiting old memories of living in the area many years ago.

Wonderful Hotel

This hotel was beautiful. Located 5 minutes from the French Quarter, it's old world charm and modern amenities were a perfect combination. The staff was very professional and accommodating. Every night from 10-11 they have complimentary hot chocolate and PBJ sandwiches, fruit and milk, which was a welcome sight upon our late arrival/check in. The rooms were spacious, clean and beautiful with wifi and a paper every morning. We loved our stay.
