Nestled in the ancient oaks of Esplanade Avenue, the ornate architectural detail of the past meets modern comfort and convenience in our restoration of the historic Lamothe House hotel. Featuring an elaborate courtyard accented by mature landscaping, a garden pond, and a refreshing pool, peace and relaxation are just steps away from the thrill the Crescent City has to offer. In addition to 30 guest rooms refinished in traditional style, five grand Antique Suites have been preserved from the original 1839 construction of the home of Jean Lamothe, a wealthy sugar cane planer of French descent. Furnished with antique furniture & artwork, the detail and charm that exemplifies old New Orleans is accessible to today's traveler. Not to be overlooked is the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood the Lamothe House calls home. Here visitors will find Frenchmen Street, often referred to as "the local's Bourbon Street", which features some of the best local music and cuisine found in the French Quarter. Whether it's your first or your next visit to the Big Easy, find the authentic New Orleans experience you are searching for at the Lamothe House.

Great couples getaway

We had a wonderful time at the Lamothe House celebrating our anniversary. We got very lucky and got a room in the main house with a nice balcony overlooking the pool. The pool was well maintained and the water was perfect for a dip in the morning before heading out for the day or to cool off later in the day. This is an authentic, historic house which we liked as we didn't want to stay at a typical brand name hotel. The hotel was very secure and the staff was helpful with area recommendations. We really liked the location as we were away from loud partying, but could easily walk to the major sites on Bourbon St, Frenchman St, French Market, Jackson Square, etc. There is also a mini mart a few blocks away which was very convenient for picking up water and snacks. I would definitely stay there again, especially in the balcony room and it was a great value overall.

Lovely!

I had booked a deluxe queen. When I arrived, my room was in the adjacent building, way at the back. It was a very sad room with no windows and very little space. I called and asked if they had something else. They gladly upgraded me to a deluxe king, right on the courtyard by the pool, for no additional charge. (This was in the off season, so I imagine this was a little easier to accommodate, and I'm grateful.) The room was still very small, but it had much better energy in the location and with the window. Our stay was quite pleasant, very quiet. The pool and courtyard are beautiful, and I couldn't have picked a better location, just between the quarter and Frenchman. I would definitely stay again!

Spacious rooms

The hotel seemed very clean and the rooms were much larger than we were accustomed to when visiting NO at this price point. Loved the large comfortable beds. However, the pool was out of order for the duration of our stay and no one seemed to know when it would be fixed and the pool men were on vacation. The pool was the primary reason we stayed there. This site helped us find a new hotel in the neighborhood for the last half of our trip and worked with LH to refund our money without a fee. I would stay there again and the staff did their best.

Good hotel off the beaten path

Great check-in/check-out experience. Room was nicely appointed and very close to the parking lot that Lamothe House shares with other hotels. The only downside to our stay was that the pool was out of service during our stay. I didn't complain because we were so busy doing other things around town...but a working pool would have been nice to relax in in the evening. Overall good experience and will return again.

A perfect spot!

Hotel staff was very helpful. The location couldn't have been more perfect, right in the LOCAL action without being by all the drunk mess of Bourbon street. How the rooms are set up its like your own private residence.

Quiet small hotel on the border of French Quarter

Lamothe House is a very nice old house, with old furniture but very comfortable bed. Its location at the border of French Quarter, on the quiet Esplanade avenue, is perfect for enjoying by foot the wonderful galleries and shops that are unique in New Orleans, without being annoyed by the noise of the fiestas every night on Bourbon street. The rooms are very small and do not have windows opening on the exterior, you can feel confined. The patio with the small pool is a small tropical paradise.

Gumbo Shop at 630 St Peter St offers the best local menu, in the heart of French quarter, around a quiet patio, for a very acceptable price.

Excellent location

When I first walked in I thought I had made a terrible mistake. The downstairs was under construction and a mess. Check in was brief. I was placed in a suite outside that had its own outside access and a key controlled gate to the street. These outer parts of the hotel had been renovated already and were all new. It was like an apartment. Wood floors, flat screen in the living area, in the sleeping area and another I'm a separate sitting area. Bathroom was nice. I enjoyed it! Room was freshened up daily. There was noise from the street but you are in New Orleans, you're not there for the quiet! I would recommend this place. Once renovations are complete it is going to be awesome! Pool and hot tub were clean and in use.

Charming hotel in ideal Location

We booked the Lamothe House based on reviews here and it being only one of three places with rooms available in our budget range near the French Quarter. Glad we did! The Lamothe House is just a block away from French Street, which is, as the proprieter put it, "Burbon street for locals". It's where the party at, not the crazy drunk tourist vomiting up oysters and daquiris outside the strip club party of Burbon Street, but the live music, bar-hopping, street fair, authentic party of French Street. And despite the proximity to fun, our unit was pretty quiet. The "Deluxe King Room" we booked was not available when we showed up (presumably because the whole place was undergoing major renovations when we were there), but they put us in a double queen room in the back apartment unit which was newly redone with brand new furniture (and paint, so it smelled a bit). It didn't have quite the antique charm of the pictures of the hotel, but the rooms were elegantly decorated with very high ceilings and very comfortable beds. The pool (with jacuzzi) is beautiful in an interior garden courtyard of the main building. The main building is original French Quarter, very beautiful. All in all it's a beautiful and charming place in the ideal location.

Pleasant Access to French Quarter

The staff was very helpful at all times. The parking was safe; not totally secure, but available. The room was nice enough; dated bathroom and window air conditioning unit made it hard to control temperature. Furtherest border of French Quarter so you'd want to know you way around. Good value for the price.
