Overall a good place with a friendly staff
I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, overall a good place with a very friendly staff. Close enough to the French Quarter but not right in the center of it, which was good. There were some minor issues such as a lumpy, overly soft bed and a disregarded request that the down pillows be replaced, but for the value and location I would definitely stay there again. I would just make sure that any special requests are made prior to arrival. It's a good three star hotel in my opinion, maybe even three and a half.

Franklyunderwhelmed
Fire on the Fourth Floor and Walking St. Charles
The stay here was Jan. 2013. Below does not have a 2013 available yet on the dropdown below so i put in 2012 but actually it was 2013. Here's the deal. We arrived late on a Friday night. Unfortunately, my wife was sick. I was impressed with the speedy check-in process as my wife really needed to lay down. The bellman moved swiftly to get our luggage to the room. The room was nice. I was looking forward to staying there. We had a balcony and were on the 10th Floor. On Saturday, my wife was still ill and i spent most of the first day walking around the French Quarter. When i sat down for dinner at about 6, however, my wife called from the hotel and said that an intercom announcement had stated that everyone had to evacuate because of a fire. She said she smelled smoke. When i got back to the hotel, the hotel guests were in the street and there were many fire trucks and firefighters on the scene. The 4th Floor was on fire and smoke was coming out of the windows on that floor. The InterCon told us to cross the street and sit in a room set up on the 2d floor of the Hilton to await further instruction. The 2d Floor meeting room of the Hi was miserable. Hardly anything to drink, hot, uncomfortable chairs, and hours of waiting to hear word on whether we would be able to get back into our rooms. Mostly, the InterCon staff passed on rumors, not solid information. Realistically, it did not seem that we would be able to get back into our rooms to stay that night. My wife was still in her pajamas. By 10, i had to get her another room. She was sick. I walked to the nearby Courtyard and booked a room. We went from four star InterCon with a balcony to pretty average 3 star . While i was out on the street, i watched a sad parade of InterCon guests slowly rolling their luggage down St. Charles on the way to other hotels that the InterCon arranged for them. Folks were finally able to get to their rooms and get their luggage out at 10:30 or so, but there was no transportation set up to help them move to the next hotel. The line to get back in to the hotel was long and the processs was obviously slow. Some of the people told me they were on the way to the Holiday Inn. Maybe the InterCon can win me over with some sort of consolation for what happened, and i certainly understand and appreciate that they had to deal with a fiasco, but i was underwhelmed with the accomodations they made for the poor guests who lost a significant part of their weekend, and i do not think they acted quickly enough to provide accurate information on what could be done for the guests.

Convenient and comfortable
Very close to downtown and the conference hotels I was attending, but more resonably priced and far enough away from the French Quarter that I was able to get a good night's sleep. The room had all the standard ammenities and was well-designed to feel spacious rather than cramped. Unfortunately there was a fire my last night and all of the hotel guest had to be relocated. The hotel staff remained calm and polite through the whole affair, and while I had to walk four blocks to my new hotel, they had set everything up for me in advance so all I had to do was check in. Note:2013 is not an option below, but my stay was in 2013 rather than 2012.

Mother's restaraunt is located south of the hotel on Poydras and is awesome. Less than 5 minutes away but will take you longer to get back because you will be stuffed!

Intercontinental
This was my second time staying at this Intercontinental. You know it's going to be a good experience based on the brand. The staff was amazing, so helpful and pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable. We made a complaint about the TV, which had lines across it and snow, and by the time we got back to the room, it was fixed. Not sure if it was a setting, or if they gave us a new TV. My only problem was that my bed jiggled as if the bottom support wasn't as wide as the top mattress. Didn't feel sturdy. I love that the bathroom has two separate areas to it, but I'd love it more if the vanity area also had a door for privacy to the main room. Overall, a great stay. Oh, another thing... why the heck was the bar closed on Saturday night? Really?
