Hyatt during Mardi Gras

the hotel was beautiful. they let us choose the floor and view we wanted upon checking in. service was very slow. it took them over an hour to bring fresh towels to the room. it took them 15-20 minutes to bring my car around from valet. and since our hotel was on a parade route, we didnt have access to our car for a few hours every day. the bellhops took over 45 minutes to come to our room to get our bags from the 18th floor, so we eventually just took them down on our own. the water was very oily when showering. i felt like i still had soap on my body and shampoo in my hair. i don't know what it was, but the other 5 ppl i went with said the same thing about the water. overall, i would stay at the hyatt again, just not during mardi gras. it was very busy and very crowded and as a result, the service was slower than expected.

truly good

This newly renovated hotel is beautiful and exceeded my expectations. The staff are exceptionally helpful. The location is great i.e., about 3-5 blocks to the French Quarter and easy access to the highways. The only shortcoming for me was no coffee maker in the room but there is a Starbucks on the premises!

Weekend getaway

The hotel was very nice and clean. The problem was the location at least a 15 minute walk to the trolley. I would stay at this hotel again.

Excellant but......

Went down for the BCS Championship game and had a wonderful time staying at this hotel. If you are attending the Superdome, it doesn't get any better. I love all the renovations to the hotel, but the biggest negative is the size of the bathrooms in the rooms. Very small one sink bathroom! Otherwise we enjoyed our stay......

acceptable but with reservations

First, the location is poor unless you need to be in the business district or really enjoy long walks,at night, through scary neighborhoods. It's just too far from anything but the Superdome or business district to be practical. Second, the structure itself is impressive, modern and equipped with some nice amenities. The mattresses are comfortable, the LCD screens huge for a hotel and the room electronics complete - but the rooms themselves are smallish and the bathrooms unventilated. Our room received one partial cleaning in three days - they either don't come at all or come by as you are dressing for dinner (I heard this comment voiced by other guests as well). The last item is that everything is either too expensive or costs extra when it shouldn't: $10 for a well drink is simply larcenous and, for the price of rooms here, internet should be included, not $10 or $13 per day. The hotel seems focused on trade group meetings and conventions. I would not stay here again unless I had business within the hotel itself.

Stay at a hotel close to one of the mass transit (street car) lines - you can get anywhere it goes for $1.25 one-way.

Hyatt regency stay

We were very pleased with our stay at the New Orleans Hyatt Regency. The staff were courteous and met our needs well. The location near the Superdome was perfect. The interior building architecture was both attractive and functional. The only issue was that of dealing with the volume of people that comes with a very large hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our time very much.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

New Orleans has so many fine restaurants within a short walk of this and other hotels in the French quarter area. We never made reservations because we could walk up to most restaurants and be seated within a reasonable time, even during major events. I would only walk or take the trolley next time I visit New Orleans.
