Inconclusive due to construction

We knew that this hotel was undergoing renovation, but we weren't deterred because the location was perfect for a convention and we are not picky about hotel rooms. As long as it's comfortable and quiet enough, that's all we require. The bed was fine, room temperature was adjustable and functioning well, and it appears that the television and bathroom had been updated recently. No complaints. Construction noise started a little earlier in the morning than we'd like, but I won't make a big issue of that. It wasn't bad. One unpleasant surprise, not mentioned in the online advertising, was that the water was turned off daily for 7-8 hours! If you're gone during the day, not a problem. But if you return to your room to freshen up, shower or use the 'plumbing facilities', you're out-of-luck. Not being notified in advance of the daily water cutoffs is unacceptable. That's a deal-breaker, in our opinion. There's no internet access, no restaurant, and the only food available is in a tabletop-sized vending machine in the lobby. It's unknown whether the very limited selection is refreshed on a daily basis. I wouldn't bet on it. Perhaps this will change when the construction is completed, but if these things are important to you, better check with them before committing. Below, you'll see that I wouldn't recommend this hotel. This is based primarily upon the water cutoffs. They should provide a steeper discount to compensate for this inconvenience, and they should make it known up front that you may find yourself unable to shower or flush your toilet after about 10AM.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Mulate's, which bills itself as the 'original' Cajun restaurant, is a couple of blocks down the street. We had an exceptional meal there, accompanied by lively Zydeco music from the house band and local Abita beers. Great food, good entertainment! A bit pricey, but -- hey, you're on vacation -- live it up and enjoy yourself!

Our room was nothing like the picture in website. Very disappointing. Glad we only had to stay one night. Also no valet parking as advertised. Paper thin walls made us listen to the TV in the next room all night long. Will not stay here again.

Unsatisfactory

I had trouble with them overbooking at checkin and did not want to give me the king size bed room I booked 3 months in advance. Then the A/C did not work from the time we got in to the time we left. Lastly the parking was not complementary ($40 a night) and the valet service made us wait 45 minutes before I ended up walking to get my own vehicle without knowing where they had parked it and I still beat the people who were waiting before us for their car. Overall this hotel is poorly managed and I would never give them my business again.

nice location and that's all

The only helpful person in this whole hotel was the female from housekeeping. No water for 2 hours longer than stated. No restaurant. No breakfast. No helpful. Just an overall bad experience. Never will we stay there again. Approached staff and was told too bad you booked through a third party. There is nothing we can do. I think this third party should know this.

Soviet-era decor

Our room, a manager's executive suite was nothing short of a glorified barracks. From the uninviting hallway to the lack of any warmth, 15 year old TV, tiny pillows and dirty carpet...we will not return. Oh, and the room photos on the hotel's website? Yeah, they feature a lovely room...but one that does not exist at the sad and sorry Hotel New Orleans.

2 days in NOLA

Hotel New Orleans is a pretty good value for the room price, but the catch is the parking if you have a car. Twenty dollars a night is pretty steep and can add up quickly. I was pleasantly surprised how large the rooms were and very elegantly decorated for a moderately priced hotel. The location is quite nice too, 10 min from the French Qrt, but not too close to all the chaos that is in that area. Pretty much parked my car and walked the whole time. The staff is very helpful and knowledgable about the area. Does not have all the amenities of the larger hotels, but if that doesn't matter to you than this is a good stay.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

When getting around New Orleans take in consideration the parking situation. Very expensive and difficult to find. Consider parking close to the street trolley lines that go up and down Canal and St. Charles streets. Only a $1.25 per trip.
