Grand Dame of the French Quarter central to area attractions
In 1886, Italian shoemaker Antonio Monteleone bought the 14-room Commercial Hotel, starting a tradition of hospitality that continues at the Monteleone to this day. The vibe throughout is retro-European, from the guest rooms' rich fabrics and marble bathrooms to the liveried doormen and distinctive Baroque façade. With its central location in the French Quarter, a few blocks from Canal Street, Jackson Square and the River Walk, the luxury Hotel Monteleone is an ideal home base for exploring the Crescent City in style.Highlights
- The lobby has crystal chandeliers, acres of marble and a grand European vibe
- A serene heated rooftop pool with breathtaking views of the downtown New Orleans skyline
- 24/7 rooftop fitness center offers panoramic views of the Mississippi River and the French Quarter
- Boutique Spa Aria uses Pevonia Botanica organic skin care products
Rooms
A renovation updated all 600 rooms and 55 suites down to marble floors, granite countertop, HD flat screens, in room fridges and high-speed Internet (fees apply). Pets are welcome (call for details) with a mat with water and food bowls, a bag of treats, and brochure of dog-friendly places in the city.
Features
In a city of great watering holes, Hotel Monteleone's Carousel Bar still manages to stand out from the crowd. The intricately carved bar, with its circus motif and cast of local characters, is iconic New Orleans. It was immortalized in the writings of Ernest Hemingway among others and hosts live piano music Wednesday through Saturday. The Hunt Room Grill provides a comfortable steakhouse atmosphere and an excellent wine list.

Lovely Old World Hotel
This is a lovely and elegant hotel. The staff was really great. My only complaint is that the rooms were a bit smaller than we are used to and my Mom had trouble getting hot water in her handicapped accessible room. We had very nice breakfasts in Criollo, the restaurant in the hotel and enjoyed Pimm's Cups in the Carousel Bar. This is a great location too! Royal Street has wonderful shops.

Your are right in the action of the French Quarter. Nice new restaurant in House. Very gracious staff Ist class all around. Our room was small as in any old Hotel Short hop to Bourbon Street and a pleasure to come home to such a happening place.

Family Getaway
The hotel was just okay. Our room was small and had the worst view. The walls were thin and we could hear the people in the next room. I was really expecting more because of the price of the room. There was also a charge to use the internet. The positives of this trip was the staff was nice and attentive and the hotel was located in the French Quarter.

amazing friendly and peaceful
This beautiful historic hotel is in the heart of the French Quarter with plentiful delights in walking distance. The staff was friendly and quick to provide assistance and answer questions. Great food and tour recommendations with a lovely pool and bar area. Room service was delicious and the room was peaceful despite the proximity to Bourbon Street and the number of guests around us. Highly recommended!

Love this hotel!
This was a spontaneous trip to celebrate my wife's remission from cancer and we have no regrets with our choice of hotel. Absolutely a beautiful, old hotel. Anyone complaining the rooms are too small are whiners--why the heck are you spending so much time in your room in New Orleans ayway? If you want a bigger room, pay the upgrade. If you want a generic, cookie cutter hotel room with useless extra space, go to a chain hotel, not a boutique hotel. The room was clean. Bed was clean. Bathroom was clean. Hotel staff--excellent! Rooftop pool and poolside bar service--excellent and refreshing get away time to relax before/after hitting the streets and sites--Lisbeth and Julie rock!. Carousel Bar was a blast...bartenders Parker and Eddie make a great drink and are fantastic ambassadors. Doormen and bellhops are great secret sources for local info. Didn't try the spa. Didn't have dinner there, but appetizers we're awesome!

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Camellia's Cafe on Chartres St for breakfast. Diner style, counter seating only, best coffee in NOLA, staff is hilarious and if you ask for it, they will make it. Inexpensive, modest, but you can't beat the food and the atmosphere.
