For a French Quarter hotel, it was remarkably quiet, except for the usual 3-am brief returning noises. Nice TV. No in-house ... room service, but various sources of food for delivery. Staff pleasant and helpful. Charge for local phone calls seemed unnecessary. Really good mattress.

OK hotel, great location
isuzudave Nov 24, 2009
My wife and I were in town one night for a friend's 40th birthday party in the French Quarter. We checked in about 4 pm. We ... had to circle the hotel about 4 times until the valet moved some cars and made room for another car to pull in. There was only one valet on duty. There did not seem to be anyone available to help with bags. There was one person working the front desk and about four people in front of us in line. It took about 30 minutes for us to get keys to our room. There was a lady "working" at the concierge desk. She was texting on her phone the entire time we waited. Not sure if she could have helped with front desk duties or not, but it was unprofessional to be texting in front of hotel guests. We got room 446. I mention the room number so you can avoid it. The room was clean and a nice size. The bathroom was very small. Even the toilet was small. The grout and caulking in the tube had mildew. The spout for the tub was attached to a pipe that was sticking out about at 1½ inches from a square hole cut in the tile. The flange for the drain in the tub was black and very corroded. Above the shower head, on the ceiling, there was a rusted metal access panel with peeling paint. While taking a shower water would come streaming out of this access panel onto your head. The bathroom just left me with a gross feeling. We could hear a constant noise coming from outside our window. It sounded like a gas generator. It was not very loud, just always there in the background. We checked out around 10 am. The person who checked us out never asked how our stay was. I guess they know better. The valet parking cost about $30. Before we checked out we called down to have our car pulled around by the valet. It was nowhere in sight when we stepped outside (about 15 minutes after we called). We decided to walk around a bit and get some breakfast. The parking lot for the hotel is right across the street. As we walked past the lot I saw my car. I did not have the keys, but it has a keypad on the handle to unlock it. I put our luggage in the car and we went to breakfast. After breakfast our car was still in the parking lot. There was still only one valet. He seemed very busy. I gave him five dollars and asked for my keys. I told him I could get my own car. He was okay with that and away we went. The location of the hotel is great if you want to stay in the French Quarter. It is one block off Bourbon Street. I don't see how you could get any sleep if you were staying on Bourbon Street. Our friends birthday party was at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. It was just around the corner from us on Bourbon Street. It seemed like a very nice hotel, but it would have cost us about twice as much. I would stay here again if I could get a great deal on a room. We only stayed for one night, and that is about all I could have taken with that room. If we needed to stay longer I would have tried to get a nicer room, or changed hotels.

This is the closest you can get to Bourbon Street without being in a noisy location. The hotel was clean, quiet and a very short walk to everything.

We had 2 couples and 1 single (total 3 rooms) and each person said they were happy with our hotel and would not hesitate to ... return. We were within walking distance to everywhere we planned to go. Ate at Acme Oyster, Mothers, Pat O'Brien's , Central Grocery, Brigstens (Garden District by taxi)then shopped and drank everywhere! Highly recommend Funky Pirate and Big Al Carson for entertainment.

We found the location to be excellent. We had a car and the parking was very expensive. Would be excellent for people without ... a car. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. There were, however, a few things in the room that needed attention. Despite being close to Bourbon Street the hotel was quiet. The staff was friendly and efficient.

This hotel was a block from Bourbon St which is great if that is what you want to do. Not so great if you don' want to hear ... the street noise all day & all night. Ear plugs were a MUST HAVE for our room- which was street side. Bathroom was postage stamp small, only fit one person at a time. But the ceilings were high, bed comfortable, affordable.

Great staff, but skip the balcony rooms
Belinda Nov 8, 2009
I booked the hotel because of its wonderful location in the French Quarter. I was taking my 17 year old to visit Tulane U ... and wanted her to get the true flavor of New Orleans. The only complaint is that I paid a little extra for a "balcony" room. Once opened, the french balcony doors would not close! The balcony is shared by other rooms, so anyone could have broken in had I not stood on a chair and forced the top lock to engage. Also, garbage trucks run in the middle of the night. Get a room overlooking the stunning atrium. It'll be quieter. I know, I should have changed rooms, but it was after midnight when we checked in....It was a wonderful trip, however, and I would stay there again.

Do not rent a car! The hotel isn't far from the airport and the hotel only offers valet parking at $30 a night. United Cab is the best company. The trolley isn't far and you can take it to the garden district and who knows where else-for $1.25!

Frugal With Standards Nov 2, 2009
I've stayed in much better hotels for the price; even though it's near the French Quarter, it's just a pricey, gussied-up ... motel. Also, the valet destroyed & lost part of my key chain, but instead of telling me, he simply jury-rigged it; I figured it out when it came apart in my hands after leaving downtown.

Great Location to the French Quarter
Aunt Kern Oct 4, 2009
Great location to access the French Quarter. Within walking distance of restaurants and shops. Felt pretty safe in ... location. PROBLEM: The toilet overflowed whenever flushed as soon as we arrived. Became necessary to use our family's toilet in the next room -- had to keep towels around base of toilet to keep water out of middle of floor. We requested an adjoining room with family members, but were given two rooms next to each other (possibly didn't have adjoining rooms).
Traveler type: Family
Offered valet parking $29.00 for 24 hours, but chose to walk short distance down the street and leave our car in parking garage for $24.00 for same amount of time.

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop is the last bar on Bourbon St and was the pit stop for the tours that I took with Haunted History Tours. A spectacular atmosphere and the best prices in town! When you visit the French Quarter you need to try the Haunted History Tours. Most leave from Rev. Zombie's Voodoo Shop. They are cheaper than any others and worth more than the others charge. Jennifer and Jonathan were my tour guides for most of the tours I took. Get the chance to go, take these tours and ask for these guides!!
