My enjoyable stay at the Historic Streetcar Inn.

My wife and I found the Historic Streetcar Inn to be a charming place with a feel of Victorian era New Orleans (the building was built in 1897). *Per the staff there may even be a ghost or two if you are into the paranormal - I didn't see anything. Speaking of the staff, my wife and I were very impressed by them. The Inn is located in the in the Garden District directly across from a St. Charles streetcar stop. Several excellent restaurants (the St, Charles Tavern, Voodoo Barbeque, and Zea to name a few) are right next to the Inn or within short walking distance. When we take our next trip to New Orleans my wife and I would definitely look to stay at the Historic Streetcar Inn.

Great location

I've stayed at a few B&B's in N.O., this one is just ok. The location was the best part, right on the St Charles trolley line and close to Garden District, Magazine St, Uptown & Irish Channel. Trolley makes it very easy to get to & from the French Quarter. We bought a 3 day pass at the Walgreens nearby for $9. you can also get a 1 day pass for $3. So you have to keep in mind these are old houses. If you are a hotel snob and expect luxuary these are not for you. You get a decent room with some older fixtures, no elevators. You should be out sight seeing any way but the time in the room was enjoyable and comfortable. I was there with a girl-friend and should have requested two beds, that was my mistake, but luckily another room was available and they were able to accommodate us with no fuss. Ok two things that irritated me a bit 1. the shower tub could use some bleach. I wouldn't say disgusting but a little elbow grease and good scrub would do good. 2. we didn't get maid service for two days even after requesting it apparently due to some mix up w/the room below us. First day-great, no problem. 2nd day-came back to no service and were puzzled. We just requested new towels and told them we like service the next day. 3rd day-came back to no service. Really!? went down to ask for more towels... 4th day was our check out. Aside from that it was fine. We're pretty easy going so we just went with the flow and had a great time. The staff did help us book a swamp tour, price includes transportation-pick up & drop off right at the hotel. Homemade Praline/cupcake shop right across the street, a few shops down. Bought some pralines for my pet sitters. All in all it's a good hotel for the $.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Book Free Tours by Foot! We did a cemetery and Garden District tour. It's about a mile of walking through the Layfette Cemetery No 1 and Garden District. You just pay what you feel is reasonable at the end. Our guide, Sarah, was awesome!! They offer a few types of tours.

One business night away.

Great location. Right on St.Charles, handful of eateries and shops. Minutes away from the French Quarter, 25 minutes walking. Room was quaint, could use new bathroom flooring. Free wifi was fantastic, continental breakfast could have included fruit and other options besides a wide variety of carbohydrates.

WONT BE BACK

This hotel was falsely advertised all the way around, First its advertised as a 3 star hotel and it wasn't cheap, I could have stayed at a 4 star hotel for the price I paid for this one, When I finally found a place to park I walked in the hotel and it stunk really bad, my room they gave me wasn't the one it showed I booked on line, the room was so small and the bed was hard and not comfortable.. Then when I asked for a refund from the staff they said no. I had explained to them that this room and hotel wasn't what it showed on line. The lady was rude and when I explained to her the its falsely advertised as a 3 star she said it was advertised as a 2 star, the location wasnt a very good location really bad area and no parking... and their breakfast was a muffin. I wont be back and will highly encourage people to spend their money on a 4 star hotel, its cheaper then this place and you get a lot more respect from staff im sure. I truly rate this place as a 1 star.

never again

Wasn't what was advertised, I booked at this hotel and this was advertised as a 3 star hotel. The room that was advertised and the one I paid for isn't the one I received, They gave me a nasty little room that stunk, and the bathroom was almost bigger then the room. When we went to get a refund for the false advertisement and amenities they wouldn't give us our refund. we paid for a 3 star and got a one star dumpster. No parking was available and the area is not such a good area... I will never come back.. At the lease they could have done was appoligize and refund a customer that wasn't happy for what they paid for... If the customer service could have been better I would consider this hotel a 2 star..

Comfort with character

My girlfriend and I stayed at this lovely hotel for two nights. We loved the fact that it wasn't a "cookie-cutter" hotel where everything looks the same. It retains the character of the old style New Orleans condos, which it originally once was. I appreciated the organic bath soaps and shampoos and was impressed to find a microwave, refridgerator, and sink in a sort of kitchenette area in our room. We had no trouble finding on street parking, though we were advised by a hotel employee to park on MLK rather than some of the poorly lit, nearby streets. I wasn't surprised by the warning as I've heard most of New Orleans is a mixed bag--the beautiful often being found near the grotesque. I was glad to not have to pay a parking fee like I might have at other nearby hotels. We walked around the surrounding Garden District admiring classic Greek architecture in the old plantation homes. Fun shops and eateries are also nearby, as well as a Walgreens for those forgotten travel items. We caught the historic St. Charles streetcar line #the oldest continuously running streetcar in the world# directly in front of the hotel and rode up to the French Quarter. Day passes are cheap.
