Brush up on your New Orleans history at this historic inn. The hotel was built in the 1800s for Baron and Baroness Joseph Xavier de Pontalba, and it was the government house when Louisiana was still a French colony. Today's budget-minded tourists can appreciate the proximity to the party without paying Bourbon Street prices. The hotel's staff is eager to make reservations and help with vacation planning.

Cold, but perfect.
Our overall experience was good, the only problems we had were the air condition.. It was FREEZING in there and it WOULD NOT get any warmer..... Also, the valet was expensive but other than that it was perfect!

Fantastic Location in French Quarter
The desk staff were very nice. The halls were very hard to navigate with a large suit case. UP and down steps to get to our room. Could not sleep with the toilet filling and draining out then filling again. The heat control was out of whack and would not heat the room. Maintenance people tried to fix the problems but were not quite good enough. Was nice to walk out the door and be in the Quarter with all the activity that goes on there. Quaint but substandard for the money

Great hotel- no windows in room
The hotel itself was clean and we got it for a good price. It's in a nice area, near everything you'd want in the French Quarter. Only complaint is that our room had no windows and we could hear everything in the hallway and in the rooms next to us. You also took your life in your hands taking the elevator, as it was broken about half the time we were other. However, staff was excellent- room was clean, and the hotel itself was very old, which would account for being able to hear everything through the walls.

Nola is a very well known restaurant in the area- which we had avoided for a while, since it's run by a celebrity chef. However, on our last night, we broke down and went, and it was amazing food for good prices.

Makes for a good safehouse!
It's a great location for a hotel to be -- on Decatur St. -- and has a nice look to it. The staff makes no promises that can't be kept, so prepare to take no for an answer if something just isn't possible, but they're nice enough. They will make dining/visitations if you just ask. With it being where it is, the area around the place can smell pretty ripe, which I'm betting is no fault of the staff. Not all of the rooms have windows with outside views, so be sure to explicitly ask about those when making reservations. There are two sheets and one blanket per bed, with one extra blanket and one extra pillow per bed in the closets. There was no fridge, microwave or stove in my room, but there was a four-cup capacity coffee maker (with complimentary coffee samples and cups), digital alarm clock, two lamps, ceiling lighting, and TV with plenty of channels. Bathroom with sink, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, and a variety of towels. There was an ice bucket and champagne bucket as well. A good place to rest, with a nice courtyard as well. Not recommended for those with kids.

Long walk from hotel
Verti Marte, on Royal and Gov. Nichols in the French Quarter. 24 hours, excellent deli with a huge variety of excellent, generous and inexpensive food items, and everything else you'd expect from a convenience store. I found the staff and almost all patrons to be friendly and unpretentious. Please, please, please leave the helper at the deli an appropriate tip.

Dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in.
We had to get someone to spray our room 2 times because of the horrible mildew and mold smell. They sprayed th filthy, spotted carpet with Febreeze. Also, the bathtub had black mold all around the caulking. It was terrible.

Great location, good character, but lousy rooms
We were a party of three and booked two rooms. One was acceptable, the other was like a jail cell with no windows. Apparently, we only paid for an internal room but there was no indication of this when booking through Orbitz.. Anyway, not bad, but there are so many other hotels in NOLA, worthwhile looking for another.
