I've stayed at the Dauphine twice now and I recommend it. It's conveniently located a block from Bourbon st. so you're in ... the action and can still get a quiet nights sleep. The regular rooms are much nicer than standard holiday inn type rooms for not much more money. The bed was very comfortable with excellent pillows. The staff was helpful and accommodating. I would also suggest, if you have some extra money, staying in one of the carriage house rooms. A friend stayed in one of them once and they are very nice. There is a nice little bar attached to the hotel in which you get 1 free beer or wine when you check in. And in the summertime you can take advantage of a small but nice swimming pool in the courtyard. The only negative is that their elevators are peculiarly old and, well, kind of run down. They work and are safe, but they are strangely out of place in an otherwise very nice hotel.

If you're feeling VERY hungry, hop in your car and drive out to Rocky and Carlos in Chalmette. I ate there for the first time this trip and was very impressed. The mac and cheese is great, and you can get it with brown gravy or marinara sauce, which seems weird but really works. Their seafood gumbo and onion rings are pretty special too. It's a great community restaurant.

The last trip we stayed at the Omni, we should have returned to that hotel. The location was alright, but the hotel is small ... and plain. You have to walk through the parking area to get to the restaurant and the elevators. We would not choose this hotel again.

the Dauphine is close to all the action in New Orleans but far enough away to get the rest you want on a vacation. Literally ... every where in the French Quarter was within walking distance from the Dauphine. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The halls were quiet, the pool was very clean, and the breakfast buffet was tops. Great place to stay and I would recommend it highly.

They were in the process of remodeling something and I was wakened to the sound of an electric saw starting at 8:15 A.M., ... every weekday morning and continuing throughout the day. They were sawing down in the Courtyard right below my balcony window. I believe the Hotel amenities, when booking the room, said there was a hot tub, I could not find one, the pool was small. Lounge did not open til 4 in the afternoon.

The best thing about this hotel was the location, as it was only one block from Bourbon Street. The thing is it didn't seem ... like we were right by it because Dauphine Street is very quiet. The rooms were pretty nice although the whole hotel did have a slight feel of being outdated. The room had a flat screen tv which was definitely nice. Overall this was a great hotel for the price.

This hotel is situated pretty well, especially if you want to stay in the Canal Street area where many attractions are ... located. It is close to Harrah's Casino, the new Insectarium (great for kids), the Riverwalk shopping center, the Aquarium of the Americas (a must see) and has easy access to the Canal Street streetcar. The hotel itself is very clean, cool, and quiet. The pool is small and usually crowded. The complimentary breakfast left quite a bit to be desired - the pastries were practically inedible, but the coffee was good. Luckily there was an IHOP on Canal, just a short walk away. I had no major problems with this hotel and would go again.
Traveler type: Couples
Don't rent a car. The cabs are plentiful and not too expensive. Parking in the French Quarter is a nightmare, and when you can find open parking, it's usually very expensive. Unless you're in the middle of summer, most things of interest can be walked to. In the summer, take a taxi. Taxis in NOLA can not be hailed, you must call. But they always come in a matter of minutes.
