A hospitable, historic French Quarter inn that’s heavy on amenities

Past and present convene at this historic hotel, which dates to the 1700s.  The hotel was once host to John James Audubon as he painted his famous bird series. It was later a bordello. Today, the Dauphine revels in its storied history and offers a comfortable contemporary hotel with lots of Southern hospitality. Guests can stay in the cottages across Dauphine from the main hotel, which are the original structures.

Highlights
  • Saltwater courtyard pool
  • Free continental breakfast and afternoon tea
  • Jacuzzi tubs
Rooms

The Dauphine's 111 rooms are as varied as the hotel's history. The 14 rooms and suites in the Hermann House Courtyard -- once the home of a wealthy merchant -- sport Jacuzzi tubs. The Carriage House was once a French Quarter townhouse and now offers nine unique courtyard rooms, each outfitted with 19th century antiques. Bathrooms in some suites can be quite lavish with opulently draped whirlpool tubs. Every room offers free Wi-Fi, bathrobes, cable TV, coffee makers, hair dryers, safe, iron and ironing board.  Complimentary continental breakfast, morning newspaper and afternoon tea are nice extras. Some suites include stone fireplaces.

Features

May Bailey's Place, was once a bordello in the red-light district of Storyville. It is now the hotel's intimate bar, complete with a red light outside and "bordello" guest suite upstairs. Visitors are welcome to take books from the inn's library back home.  A recently updated fitness center helps visitors work off the excesses of a visit to New Orleans. Free morning breakfast includes fresh fruit, cereal and a make your own waffles station. There is valet parking (fees apply).

Great find

We were in New Orleans for a short wedding weekend. This hotel had too many perks for us to enjoy because we were short on time. Free water bottles, snacks, breakfast, and the pool.

Weeknights in New Orleans

Overall, we had a very pleasant experience at Dauphine Orleans Hotel. The location is fantastic as it is located one block away from Bourbon Street. The noise from Bourbon does not reach the hotel, but fun is certainly close by. The check-in staff was very courteous as was the valet attendant. The room was very clean and had a nice feel to it. The only complaints regarding the room were that the water pressure was severely lacking and that the outside walls did let in a lot of noise from the parking garage. I would recommend taking earplugs if you happen to end up on the parking garage side of the hotel. Breakfast was included and was above average.

Great experience

The Dauphine Orleans is a well-maintained hotel with a lot of character in a wonderful spot in the French Quarter. What more could you ask for? It is only one street from Bourbon (lots of fun) and two from Royal (lots of shopping), but it is still exceptionally quiet with a very attentive staff.

Not bad - For the money

The Dauphine Orleans was not bad. Staff was excellent, though they weren't able to keep our room from getting warm during the day (several times it was 76 when we got to the hotel in the evening, though the thermostat was left at 68). Not a big deal, but my wife didn't get a lot of sleep. The only other complaints we had with the room was that there was only one night stand, and virtually no storage or drawers in the bathroom. But hey, it's the French Quarter, and an old hotel.

Surprise. Despite being one block from Bourbon Street, there was no noise, even on Saturday night.

Unbeatable cossy getaway for the price

Everything was over my expectation. We did a lot of shopping, ate great food, tourist visit. People at the hotel gave us great advise & reference. Thank to everybody. We already start to suggest this place to our family & friend. We hope to go back during 2010. Thanks again

Daulphine Orleans Hotel

Overall this was a great hotel-clean;quiet;location was perfect for us. I would like to say that [...] was very knowledgable and helpful-every evening we would ask for a great place for dinner and he directed us to places we would never have found on our own. He was a great asset to to hotel. The afternoon tea advertised, is no longer being done. The breakfasat and bar were very nice.We diffently would use this hotel again. No dinning on the property, other that breakfast.

Great Location

Rooms are comfortable, but no open window/balcony. Nice size bathroom. Don't bring a car, parking prices are crazy! Great breakfast to start the day without searching for a restaurant. Location is perfect - clean and safe walking.
