A hospitable, historic French Quarter inn that’s heavy on amenities
Past and present convene at this historic hotel, which dates to the 1700s. The hotel was once host to John James Audubon as he painted his famous bird series. It was later a bordello. Today, the Dauphine revels in its storied history and offers a comfortable contemporary hotel with lots of Southern hospitality. Guests can stay in the cottages across Dauphine from the main hotel, which are the original structures.
Highlights
- Saltwater courtyard pool
- Free continental breakfast and afternoon tea
- Jacuzzi tubs
Rooms
The Dauphine's 111 rooms are as varied as the hotel's history. The 14 rooms and suites in the Hermann House Courtyard -- once the home of a wealthy merchant -- sport Jacuzzi tubs. The Carriage House was once a French Quarter townhouse and now offers nine unique courtyard rooms, each outfitted with 19th century antiques. Bathrooms in some suites can be quite lavish with opulently draped whirlpool tubs. Every room offers free Wi-Fi, bathrobes, cable TV, coffee makers, hair dryers, safe, iron and ironing board. Complimentary continental breakfast, morning newspaper and afternoon tea are nice extras. Some suites include stone fireplaces.
Features
May Bailey's Place, was once a bordello in the red-light district of Storyville. It is now the hotel's intimate bar, complete with a red light outside and "bordello" guest suite upstairs. Visitors are welcome to take books from the inn's library back home. A recently updated fitness center helps visitors work off the excesses of a visit to New Orleans. Free morning breakfast includes fresh fruit, cereal and a make your own waffles station. There is valet parking (fees apply).

Hospitable, Cozy
We really enjoyed this hotel and would go back. Why would we go back? It was a friendly, non-pretentious place with a little character and it was very comfortable. The room was clean, without odor. The water temperature and pressure were good. There were no leaks. I liked the smell of the soap/shampoo. The bed was very comfortable. The noise level was low. The street was noisy due to Mardi Gras, but only a low level of noise reached our 4th floor room. We didn't hear any noise from within other rooms. When the occasional noisy group went through the halls we could hear them. But we were surprised by how serene our room felt. The hotel bar was cozy. Just lovely, in fact. I wish I had that bar back home. The court yards were relaxed. The continental breakfast was better than average and included King Cake. Everyone we interacted with was kind and helpful. I really got a sense that they were nice people who made me feel real comfortable.

Perfect Few Days Away
My fiance and I and another couple went down for a short vacation. We at stayed for 3 days, 2 nights and I will definitely be staying there again. We are from Boston where it's been a very looong winter and their pool courtyard, outside tables for eating and drinking was just what we needed. The beds were so comfortable and we had a great balcony overlooking the street. A block from the heart of Bourbon, everything was perfect. Next year will be my 3rd trip to NO and we will be staying at the Dauphine again.

The hotel gives you a complimentary drink ticket when you check in for your stay. However, if you ask for one each day for that night they will be more than happier to oblige.

Great Hotel near Bourbon Street
The Dauphne Orleans is a great hotel a block away from Bourbon Street. Our guest room was lovely. The room opened up onto a courtyard. King bed with lots of pillows. Refrigerator in the room. The continental breakfast was supurb; make your own waffles, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, bagels, croissants, juices, coffee & tea. In the afternoon there were coffee, tea, and cookies available. There was a fitness room and small swimming pool which we didnt use. Upon arrival we received coupons for complimentary drinks at the ajacent lounge.

Great Hotel!!
This was our third trip to New Orleans staying at the Dauphine Orleans. Can't say enough about them. Check in was quick and easy with friendly staff. We got there before noon and the hotel was booked, so they put our bags in storage and called my cell phone when the room was ready. Room was clean and neat. Great bed with tempurpedic mattress with foam and feather pillows and comforter..New 32" flatscreen in the room. Only one block off Bourbon in the French Quarter, but was quiet at night. Never would have known. Great breakfast included everything you could want. The desk staff, bell-hops, garage attendants and housekeeping staff were all professional, helpful and friendly. Received tickets for 2 free drinks at May Baileys bar (used to be a brothel). Didn't use the pool but is nice to sit in the courtyard and have a drink or just relax. Price was right and would definitely recommend this hotel.

If you want to hear good music without all the craziness of Bourbon. It's a 5 minute cab ride to Frenchman Street. Great atmosphere and the drinks are cheaper than the tourist traps on Bourbon.
