A hospitable, historic French Quarter inn that’s heavy on amenities
Past and present convene at this historic hotel, which dates to the 1700s. The hotel was once host to John James Audubon as he painted his famous bird series. It was later a bordello. Today, the Dauphine revels in its storied history and offers a comfortable contemporary hotel with lots of Southern hospitality. Guests can stay in the cottages across Dauphine from the main hotel, which are the original structures.
Highlights
- Saltwater courtyard pool
- Free continental breakfast and afternoon tea
- Jacuzzi tubs
Rooms
The Dauphine's 111 rooms are as varied as the hotel's history. The 14 rooms and suites in the Hermann House Courtyard -- once the home of a wealthy merchant -- sport Jacuzzi tubs. The Carriage House was once a French Quarter townhouse and now offers nine unique courtyard rooms, each outfitted with 19th century antiques. Bathrooms in some suites can be quite lavish with opulently draped whirlpool tubs. Every room offers free Wi-Fi, bathrobes, cable TV, coffee makers, hair dryers, safe, iron and ironing board. Complimentary continental breakfast, morning newspaper and afternoon tea are nice extras. Some suites include stone fireplaces.
Features
May Bailey's Place, was once a bordello in the red-light district of Storyville. It is now the hotel's intimate bar, complete with a red light outside and "bordello" guest suite upstairs. Visitors are welcome to take books from the inn's library back home. A recently updated fitness center helps visitors work off the excesses of a visit to New Orleans. Free morning breakfast includes fresh fruit, cereal and a make your own waffles station. There is valet parking (fees apply).

Good location in the french quarter, close to everything yet quiet at night. Bed was comfortable, temper pedic mattress. Complimentary breakfast could be improved, consisted of waffles (make yourself), cold cereal and juice. Fairly clean. Valet parking for $30 a day.

Dauphine Orleans
Great, smaller hotel with lots of easy to use amenities - pool, fitness center, bar/breakfast, computer/printer in lobby. Fantastic location - walking distance to everything in the french quarter. If you are not a partier, ask to be at the end of a hallyway - otherwise you will hear everyone as they come back from their night of drinking and debauchery!!

Great Location, Nice Hotel
The Dauphine is so conveniently located one block from Bourbon Street. It is quiet enough so that sleeping isn't a problem, but close enough so that you are within walking distance of anything in the Quarter. The room in which I stayed was nothing fancy, two double beds, but being in NOLA I didn't plan to spend much time in the room, anyway. The continental breakfast included coffee, juices, tea, fruit, yogurt, cereal and belgian waffles. For the value, a wonderful hotel in the heart of the Quarter.

Close to Bourbon Street
This is neither a bad hotel nor a great hotel. Which is why I gave it 3 stars. It delivers on what it promises - clean rooms, good service and nice staff. All things that you should expect from any hotel. The best thing about this hotel is that its right in the french quarter. Its just a block away from Bourbon street and there are plenty of nice restaurants right next to it (Jager Haus and Lousiana Bistro and Bombay Cafe). And when you get bored, its less than a 2 minute stroll to Bourbon street. From this hotel, its less than a 10 minute walk to St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square and from there its a 5 minute walk to the French Market. And when you return in the night, you can use your free coupon for a drink in the hotel's bar for a wine/beer before you hit the bed. Overall a nice hotel. The only thing I think is that its a bit overpriced compared to other hotels in the french quarter. (I havent stayed in the others, but from outside they looked just as nice but were $10 to $35 cheaper than this one on the same day).

Dauphine Orleans Hotel
The Dauphine Orleans is a wonderful place to stay in New Orleans. It is just about 2 blocks off the beaten path of all the noise at night from the people celebrating this grand city so you can get a good night's sleep. The staff was so informative and always ready to help. The room was quaint because it is a very old building but all new fixtures and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast downstairs comes with your room. The bartender, [...] told us about a great book store, and the best little resturant in town. would definitely stay there again.

It is called Louisana Bistro. On the menu it says "Feed Me". This means that the chef will cook exclusively for you. You can have a 3, 4 or 5 course meal and let me tell, you are in for a wonderful treat.

clean, quiet, and pleasant
I stayed at the Dauphine Orleans with a friend while we were attending a conference in Nov. 2010. It was an easy walk from the big conference hotels on Canal St. The rooms were rather plain and some details could use updating but they were very clean and quiet (we had an interior room) and comfortable (the beds were especially comfy!). The staff was attentive. The location was convenient and off the rowdy-party Bourbon St. scene. So all in all it suited our needs well at a lower price than the conference hotel options. it would also be a good choice if my visit were for pleasure/vacation.

Don't do it!
Our first room fronted the very noisy street, was in ill repair replete with a leaky refrigerator that had the carpeting damp in a three foot circumference. They moved us to the main hotel, third floor where garage workers and maintenance personnel arrive early in the morning and proceed to yell instructions to each other and otherwise talk loudly; we called down to the front desk on almost a daily basis asking them to please ask folks to quiet down. The worst part was the major water pump break that caused all of the water in the area to become contaminated and required that no one use it for brushing teeth, drinking, etcetera without a ten minute boil. The hotel NEVER informed us as guests. The major hotels in the area (Sheraton, Marriott) provided bottled water to all guests along with constant updates. Seriously, this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at in terms of service, cleanliness, and regard for its guests.
