The location was great for bar hopping on Bourbon & right on the Street car line. Our only complaint was it was always crowded entering the hotel, smelled like pot right outside the front door and the valet service was chaotic. But the room was
nice and clean - no complaints.
This is the old Astor Hotel that I think Crown Plaza took over recently. It has a great location on Canal and Bourbon with an exit directly onto Bourbon Street is that is where you are heading. It has a beautiful old marble lobby that leads right
into Bourbon House restaurant--a property of the Brennan Family--had some great oysters here. The hotel was very clean and the staff was superior.
Overall this was a very good experience. Small quibble--the room was slightly dated, looked like the early 90's, with a large stain on the carpet as you walked in. The room was also next to the elevator so that woke me up every morning. I normally wouldn't complain about this but the hotel seemed pretty empty so they could have put me in a room not right next to the elevator shaft. Also there are two sets of automatic doors leading into the lobby as you enter the hotel. They create a dramatic effect when they work which I found out quickly was rarely, so people were forced to yank and pull on the automatic doors to get into the hotel. This was an unusually cold period for NOLA and I suspect they keep the doors open most of the time like every other business here but on this occasion they had to keep them closed and they simply didn't work most of the time. Once again this was a minor annoyance and I learned to sneak in from the Bourbon House restaurant after a day.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short walk from hotel
Bourbon Street is right outside the door but his end of it is fairly quiet so if you want to avoid the nosier elements of the street that is easy to do.
Location is great. Easy to walk to attractions, nightlife, restaurants.across the street from trolley car to go to garden district or WWII museum. Corner of Bourbon street for night life. Only complaint would be the housekeeping. When we did ask
for them to clean, they didn't take used rags or clean shower out. We had do it disturb sign on and two mornings they knocked in our door. Otherwise great place to stay
Below expectation. Booked for one night but room not available until 4pm. Concierge service closed in very early evening but Chechen in staff were helpful. TV remote missing . No info of any use in guests welcome folder except security warnings.
Map had been torn out of city guide book placed in the room. Location was very good.
