The worst hotel experience !

This was by far the worst hotel experience of my life ! I travel to new Orleans often and chateau dupre was below standards . The room was dirty , had a cockroach , broken lights , broken toilet , everything was a complete disaster . Room service was poor as well . They actually left my door wide open as I returned to my room in the afternoon. Not only is everything run down and dysfunctional But the service I received from front desk was rude and very awful . Sharmeeka the young woman who works there is the rudest most disrespectful person I've encountered in a customer service hotel environment . She should be working with inmates in a jail not at a hotel ! The other staff was ok, but this young girl made the experience the worst possible . The awful list goes on but I would never want to return after what I experienced here .

a definite future repeat performance

Chateau Dupre offered a pleasant stay. Great location, friendly and helpful staff, they have done alot of upkeep and maintenance on the hotel which was built in 1854 (which gives it even more character and charm. The temperature inside was comfortable.I enjoyed being right above the street which provided entertainment at times outside with spontaneous parades going by, street muscians, etc. Despite the frequent fire trucks from down the street passing by, it was quiet and a great place to relax. An excellent value.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Every morning walked all over French Quarter, along Mississippi River, to parks, restaurants and cafes, and also to conference several blocks away. Being able to walk all over, with lots to see and do within a short jaunt was great. Tour shop right next store person was very helpful and steered me in great directions from the hotel.

Wouldn't stay here again

1 1/2 stars. Had to go to the front desk 3 times because the room keys didn't work. The first time, our room was changed because the door lock was broken. (Hotel Maintenance couldn't open the door with his master key either.) No luggage rack in the room. The room wasn't very clean - there was a layer of dust on the molding and door frames. In the morning, there were small bugs in the sink (fleas?). Finally, when checking out, it took an hour for the valet to bring the car because the original valet driver didn't know how to get to the hotel. Another valet driver finally brought the car.

Big dissapointment

It doesn't deserve the name hotel or 3 stars achievement. It is the worst by far that I experienced thru [...]and I travel alot of places. Besides they put me in a double bed room when I booked king when I got home they charged me extra $25 for who knows what ?The room had humidity on the ceiling, dusty, dirty curtains and windows, lights did not work.A shame of a motel more like it,customer service really bad, elevator old and not working properly.Should be closed out.

Excellent value

What I liked was the inexpensive price and the location, in the heart of New Orleans. I came for a meeting at the Convention Center, and it was close enough I could ride the same shuttle bus service everyone who paid much more than me used, because I had to walk only about 1 block to use it. The room decor was better than I usually see for the price. Although not as nice as rooms costing $100/night up, it was quite elegant for the price. The room came with a coffee server and iron and ironing board. The hotel had a temporary problem with their elevator, so they discounted my stay about $15/night. But my room was on 2nd, and staff carried my luggage both ways. Motel 6 doesn't provide that. The only thing I really missed was a small table in my room, but I made do.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

By being located centrally downtown, it was only a cheap local bus ride from the Amtrak station, and it was within walking distance of the convention center, the riverfront, shopping and fast food. It was in the French Quarter, for those who want to explore it.

Is This the Same Inn?

This is a great location for events...and cheap. But,this is absolutly not luxury, and you should be prepared to expect very little as far as rennovations since the "statesmen and magnates" lived there.I think a few were still around. My son,and other guests had significant alllergic reactions to something in the room...so...if you have mold or pesticide allergies, you may have problems. The curtain rods were broken, and the drapes did just that...drape from the falling rods. The elevator quit on the second day,and was not repaired during our visit. The 4th floor climb was a good workout to counteract the overeating, but you'll have to be in good shape to cope in the heat.I think the carpets were last vaccumed around 1902...allot of memories in those stains. There's no computer, printer or fax for the guests.Outlets are sparce, but there is WIFI..The restaurant served a rather bland/tasteless combination of Cajun dishes, but there are plenty of other places to eat in the area. There's never ending noise from the street...but that's New Orleans.Be sure to bring some earplugs if you plan on getting any sleep. If you want a very basic room...it's OK.It is not, however, the historic beauty described above. The photograph of the lobby must have been taken in another century. We were told that we would receive a 20% discount for the inconveniences, and that we must contact [...]for a refund.Let's see if that happens within the next decade.

Before you go,check out some of the newer New Orleans restaurants in reviews. The old ones are wonderful, but there's always something different and exciting.Don't just dine in the Quarter...Riverbend,Magazine,Frenchmen's,and the Garden District are great. The higher price rerely equals the quality. One of the worst meals I have had(and that's hard to do in NO)for a rediculous price was "Breakfast at Brennens."

DO NOT STAY AT THE HOTEL CHATEAU DUPRE!!

New Orleans is a magical city, but this hotel was a total nightmare. Upon entering this tiny brick wall room that looked like a jail cell with windows, there was trash in the floor beside the chair, the curtains hung off the rod, so they didn't work or open, the bathroom floor was sticky, there was barely any toilet paper and there were only 2 towels for a 4 person room. Not to mention the desk people are completely rude. When I mentioned to them the trash, sticky floor and broken curtains, one of their response was "People expect this to be like the Hilton and it's not". No, I do not expect every hotel to be like the Hilton, but I do expect them to be clean with the amenities as promised, and with a staff that actually does their job, especially for the $150 per night and $28 per day valet fee. This hotel stay completely sucked and unfortunately made my New Orleans stay a bit less enjoyable.
