Will be back

Everything was great. They even had their own free secure parking lot. The only exception is the elevator was a little scary, loose parts or falling apart, not sure.

What a Wonderful Hotel

We were delighted to arrive and find a bright, clean lobby with easy access to a gated parking lot; "Lacey" at the front desk with so many helpful suggestions on how to get around and where to eat; an elaborate breakfast in the morning; a street car thar runs literally right past the front door; a safe neighborhood; large, clean room with comfy beds; extra sink/dressing area; and generally a feeling that we were in real comfort. Not a single negative. This is an older hotel that has been remodeled by Best Western, and that older, European feeling is still there. I'd go back there in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to you.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Street car is $1.25 plus $.25 for a transfer (Seniors ride for $.40). Take the St. Charles car to the Canal St. car, then tranfer again to the Riverfront car. This will take you to Jackson Square and plenty of great things to see and do, especially in the daytime. Nighttime is entirely different (some streets are darker and single women traveling will want to be careful where they wander). Cafe Du Monde (open 24 hours) and Aunt Sally's Praline Shop are next to each other - they were our daytime destinations. We asked some locals where to get a reasonably priced seafood dinner and they recommended the Alpine, which happened to be closed for the filming of a Kate Hudson movie (yes, we took photos of her shooting the film), but the manager of Alpine recommended walking 2 blocks up the street to the Charter House Restaurant. Perfect, great food, good prices. Imagine getting about 20 jumbo shrimp with hush puppies and fries for only $14.95! It was delicious, as was the gumbo/jambalaya/beans & rice combo for $18.00. Very friendly staff, great people-watching location. If you're driving your car into the area, public parking on the riverfront is $5.00 for 1st hour, $8.00 for 2 hours, etc. If you're traveling up Canal St. and you want amazing Italian gelato, cookies, cannollis, spumoni, etc., go to the corner of Canal and Carrollton (about 40 blocks up from the Fr. Qtr., and turn right. Address is 214 N. Carrollton Ave. Authentic and wonderful.

Best Western St. Charles Inn

It was a great place to stay for families. The street cars ran right past the hotel. There weren't many restaurants near the hotel, but the ones nearby really were great. A McDonalds was within a couple blocks (important with young kids) and a drug store was just across the way. It was a very nice place. The only downside was that if you want to take advantage of the French Quarter, it was somewhat difficult due to the location.

Nice Location, Poor Service

I reserved two rooms and the hotel only had me down for one. I had to get out the conformation email to prove I had in fact paid for two rooms. When things finally got sorted out, I didn't get the same beds I had asked for and confirmed that I had gotten.

Location, comfort, and more!

A great Garden District bargain. Nice, large rooms; friendly concierge; gated parking; popular Mexican restaurant downstairs; and the St. Charles streetcar outside helped me sleep. Two blocks away the coolest, nicest winebar (Delachaise) with great food and the BEST bartenders in New Orleans. A Sazerac cocktail to kill for. Walks nearby will reward you with their loveliness. And Commander's Palace just a few minutes away! Superb service, great food, and the OTHER great Sazerac in town.

Good location, but needs some updating

If you are moving your child into college in New Orleans, this is a good location. However, don't expect friendliness from the staff.

Will Stay Here Next NOLA Visit

This hotel is fabulous because it has free parking on site, is on the Saint Charles Streetcar line which will take you right to the Quarter very inexpensively and reliably. The room was comfortable, although the blackout curtains hung over the air conditioning unit, blocking most of the cold air into the room. The TV was at an odd angle and so was not visible from the bed. The lights were hot, which was irritating in the hot New Orleans summer. The free wireless is great, and the free breakfast each morning was pretty good.

Great getaway place

Having taken the train to New Orleans the motel was on the streetcar line and we took it almost everywhere we went. It was wonderful.
