Historic hotel with contemporary flair near Riverwalk, downtown sites
Three historic coffee warehouses were combined and repurposed to create this unique Arts District hotel. Modern appointments join original hardwood floors, beamed ceilings and recycled wrought iron for a completely contemporary feel. The National Park Service has certified the restoration, and the result is a one-of-a-kind hotel in a great location. The hotel has easy access the convention center, French Quarter or cruise terminal. Riverwalk and its paddleboat rides are at the doorstep.
Highlights
- In-room spa services
- 24-hour fitness center
- New Orleans Saints-themed sports bar
Rooms
The Ambassador has been recognized for its re-use of materials. The old-made-new element is apparent in its 175 guest rooms with kings, doubles or queens. In the rooms, wrought iron four-poster beds welcome each guest. Gleaming hardwood floors, exposed brick walls and high timber ceilings lend an open feeling. All rooms feature ceiling fans, oversized executive desks, irons and ironing boards, coffee makers, safes and high-speed Internet access (covered in resort fee).
Features
The Arts District location is convenient for tourists and business travelers alike. Downtown New Orleans, The French Quarter, Central Business District, Riverwalk, museums and convention center are an easy walk away. The developers took great pains to retain the original look of the former coffee warehouses. Visitors can soak up the historic feel while enjoying modern conveniences. Saints fans can walk to the Superdome. Valet parking is available (fees apply).

Comfortable homey feeling
We stayed only one night with our granddaughters and it was very comfortable. We were able to walk to our destinations with New Orleans and not incur additional costs for parking or cabs. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will stay here again.

Comfortable and handy accomodations
A great location for exploring this unique city. The food and the bar were a great addition to a great hotel find. As others have mentioned, the shower curtain was in dire need of a clean-up but I found everything else to bequite acceptable.

Disappointed
The hotel had trouble finding the terms under which we booked the hotel and took a while to confirm that the website indeed says free valet parking. They also charge a mandatory fee of about $8 which is supposedly for unlimited Wi-Fi, but our room did not get a signal at all, had trouble connecting to the internet even through an ethernet cable and still, when we asked for a refund of the fee since we did not receive the service we were charged for, the staff were unhelpful and refused to give us one. The so called "Continental" Breakfast consisted of store-bought mini-muffins and cut up coffee cake and coffee, there was no tea or even hot water, no place to sit down for breakfast and not to mention the noise from the pipes in the ceiling.

The locals try to avoid the touristy flavor of Bourbon St. and instead go to the clubs on Frenchman.

The hotel had an awesome location. It was downtown within walking distance of everything. Across the street from Harrah's. The hotel was in the warehouse district and we loved the concrete walls and wood floors.

Great Bang for the Buck
The hotel is conveniently near the French Quarter and the Riverfront, our room is spacious and decent, and overall we really got our money worth. I would have rated the hotel higher at 4 stars if it weren't for two small issues: our room were not cleaned after the first night, and we can hear some neighboring noise as well as the elevators. Fortunately that did not bother us since we were out so much having fun and that we really slept soundly. The hotel has a nice antique look and the surrounding area of Warehouse/Art district feels safe, nice and quite. We also got two free tickets to cruise on the Creole Queen by booking on [...] so that was a great bonus. The hotel charges an extra $7.95/day Value Package fee but I knew that before hand.

Catch beads outside your front door!
We stayed at the Ambassador during Mardi Gras. We loved the location because we were on most of the parade routes. We felt for the price we paid ($1,300) we should have had a bigger room and at least have had sheets that weren't torn. The hotel also charges $7.95 per day for wireless Internet. We were also charged for 10 days of parking when we were only there for 5. I heard the front desk agent say that parking was $40 a night unless noted in the reservation. We did not inform the hotel we were going to valet until we arrived and they only charged me $29 per night.

Read [...] Fine Writing
We were charged a mandatory $7.95 per day fee for unlimited internet, local phone calls, business center, pool, etc. Possibly it was stated somewhere on the page when I booked through [...], but I don't recall. If it was, it was probably in very fine print or a link to some lengthy terms and conditions. After going to the hotel's web site, it is clearly stated on the bottom of their page that this fee is in addition to the nightly fee, so I don't wrong the hotel for people that book direct, but the clarity between [...] and the hotel is lacking and is deceiving. I also was suppose to have free parking per [...] and after they attempted to charge me, the made the correction. Additionally, we were suppose to have 2 river boat tickets with our [...] booking and had to ask to get those. The hotel staff was very friendly and this hotel is really cool because of how unique the interior brick and wood floors make it a true New Orleans style hotel. My main complaint is the gap in communication between the hotel and [...].
