Historic hotel with contemporary flair near Riverwalk, downtown sites
Three historic coffee warehouses were combined and repurposed to create this unique Arts District hotel. Modern appointments join original hardwood floors, beamed ceilings and recycled wrought iron for a completely contemporary feel. The National Park Service has certified the restoration, and the result is a one-of-a-kind hotel in a great location. The hotel has easy access the convention center, French Quarter or cruise terminal. Riverwalk and its paddleboat rides are at the doorstep.
Highlights
- In-room spa services
- 24-hour fitness center
- New Orleans Saints-themed sports bar
Rooms
The Ambassador has been recognized for its re-use of materials. The old-made-new element is apparent in its 175 guest rooms with kings, doubles or queens. In the rooms, wrought iron four-poster beds welcome each guest. Gleaming hardwood floors, exposed brick walls and high timber ceilings lend an open feeling. All rooms feature ceiling fans, oversized executive desks, irons and ironing boards, coffee makers, safes and high-speed Internet access (covered in resort fee).
Features
The Arts District location is convenient for tourists and business travelers alike. Downtown New Orleans, The French Quarter, Central Business District, Riverwalk, museums and convention center are an easy walk away. The developers took great pains to retain the original look of the former coffee warehouses. Visitors can soak up the historic feel while enjoying modern conveniences. Saints fans can walk to the Superdome. Valet parking is available (fees apply).

What a beatiful place
We walked into a beautiful hotel...we rode in on our motorcycle from Jackson MS. We were tired and was ready to rest. We were welcomed and checked in right away. They wanted to make sure that we had what we needed. They were so nice and seemed interested in you as a person, not just a client. When we asked advise or direction they went above and beyond to make sure that you received what you needed to have a successful trip. The room was so classy and clean. The view was awesome. At night we were away from the noise so we could sleep. We were able to walk to all exhibits or destinations. Not to mention great coffee. Thank you Ambassador Hotel for a five star stay. We will be back.

Wonderful time!!!
We wanted to celebrate our 25th anniversary. When reading ratings we were apprehensive about this hotel; however, when we got there we were very happy. The staff went out ouf their way to make sure we were happy. The room was awesome. Brick walls, dark hardwood flooring. First floor level room, large bathroom, very comfortable. They even took the time to make resrvations for the civil war cruise and we walked right up to the window and our tickets were right there. We didn't get to eat in the dining room, but we will definately be back and look forward to their chef's menu. A special thank you to the entire staff for making the first two nights of our anniversary vacation a special one!!! T. Summers

Beautiful old new Orleans hotel.
The hotel had a beautiful lobby and neat little bar downstairs. Great location near harrahs and Decatur, and only a few minutes walk from Bourbon St. Rooms were smaller as expected from 100 yr old building, but clean and nice bath. I would recommend parking in the lot across the street rather than valet - it costs a little less and doesnt take near the time to retreive your car. Overall we had a great experience with this hotel. I lived in new orleans for several years and visit often. I would stay here again.

Not clean
We checked in after midnight and checked out the next morning as the room was dirty. The sheets and pillow case looked used and the bathroom was dirty - could not use the tub. I took pictures which did not do justice to the snot on the wall behind the bed. Anyway I couldn't wait to get out of there and felt fortunate that we did not experience a bed bug episode or something. The hotel is well located but noisy. It looks charming in the pictures but the "windows" in our room did not look outside but rather into the hotel corridor. Therefore a bit noisy when people walking by. The breakfast was coffee and pastries - they do not give you a plate but do have napkins. no, I would not recommend this hotel and was glad to move to a clean hotel.

Old style comfort, would stay again
Loved the historic quality of the rooms and hotel. Parking can be expensive (about 29 a night across the street, 36 for valet), but we were able to park on the street in the 2 hour and get away with it (the clerk said they sometimes ticket, sometimes they don't-we may have just lucked out). The hotel bar was reasonable and poured good martinis, and I enjoyed a perfect catfish po'boy. Our bath tub was huge, so wife poured herself a hot one. Very close the riverwalk, and in mild weather perfect walking distance to French Quarter.

Great value
The hotel was a good value for the money in that it was in a convenient location and felt very safe. Very short walk to the casino. Also an easy walk to the French Quarter. The room was spacious. In fact it was actually a mini suite in that it had a separate sitting area with television, sofa and desk. The bedroom had a comfortable bed and television with nice bathroom. My two negatives are that we could hear the person above us walking around on the wooden floors - from bedroom to bathroom and back again - knew their every move in the morning. Also, there was no window in the room. The building is a restored warehouse type of building with charm but with those two drawbacks. The room was spacious and the hotel was charming. Definitely for the money and location it is a great value.

Unusual and nice
Since the Ambassador Hotel is a renovated coffee warehouse, it is very different from a chain hotel. There are hardwood floors, and unusual architectural features. The last room in which I stayed had a nice king size bed and a separate sitting room. The price is also extremely nice for New Orleans.

Great Place to Stay
Great place to stay. Be forewarned that not all rooms are the same size. Our room had 2 beds and was very large. My sister-in-law's room also had 2 beds, but was much smaller. However, she did pay about $15 less. Valet parking is $26 a day (ouch!), but that may be the norm for New Orleans. The public lot across the street was $25. My only complaint about the room was the small TV. The hotel tacked on a $6.95 resort fee, that you can't get out of. They say it's for phone service and internet access. Taxi ride to the French Quarter for 5 people will cost around $10-$11 dollars.

Unique Style
This was my first time visiting New Orleans so I did not know what to expect but I had a great time at the Ambassador! The rooms were very unique in that the walls were brick! The location was on a little side street but was in walking distance to great places such as Mother's Restaurant, Harrah's Casino and Decatur Street where so much was going on :-) We were close to clubs, restaurants and a mini mart in the hotel next door to ours! lol The restaurant in the hotel, although newly opened served excellent food--possibly one of the best burgers I ever tasted-- along with these delicious sweet potato fries. It was truly a delight...The only major complaint I had was when requesting towels and blankets, that seemed to take several calls...also, it would have been nice if a pool was at this hotel.

Get a map to try and locate where streets are...we had one and it was very easy to follow..most things were off Canal Street, the main strip near the hotel.

Good Value
The Ambassador Hotel New Orleans is conveniently located near the French Quarter, Harrah's Casino. Easy walk to streetcar. On-site restaurant didn't seem to be open all the time. Very small bathroom; room had very small window looking into a tiny open area facing brick walls so not much natural ligh; walls had scuff marks but somehow added to charm of property. Wood floors and brick wall in room were nice. Housekeeping never left clean glasses, we had to ask. Charged a daily resort fee for unlimited use of internet and unlimited local and long distance phone calls. Did not know of this added fee until check-in. Easy walk to restaurants, shopping and transportation. Staff was helpful in getting taxi and handing out band-aids!
