Historic hotel with contemporary flair near Riverwalk, downtown sites
Three historic coffee warehouses were combined and repurposed to create this unique Arts District hotel. Modern appointments join original hardwood floors, beamed ceilings and recycled wrought iron for a completely contemporary feel. The National Park Service has certified the restoration, and the result is a one-of-a-kind hotel in a great location. The hotel has easy access the convention center, French Quarter or cruise terminal. Riverwalk and its paddleboat rides are at the doorstep.
Highlights
- In-room spa services
- 24-hour fitness center
- New Orleans Saints-themed sports bar
Rooms
The Ambassador has been recognized for its re-use of materials. The old-made-new element is apparent in its 175 guest rooms with kings, doubles or queens. In the rooms, wrought iron four-poster beds welcome each guest. Gleaming hardwood floors, exposed brick walls and high timber ceilings lend an open feeling. All rooms feature ceiling fans, oversized executive desks, irons and ironing boards, coffee makers, safes and high-speed Internet access (covered in resort fee).
Features
The Arts District location is convenient for tourists and business travelers alike. Downtown New Orleans, The French Quarter, Central Business District, Riverwalk, museums and convention center are an easy walk away. The developers took great pains to retain the original look of the former coffee warehouses. Visitors can soak up the historic feel while enjoying modern conveniences. Saints fans can walk to the Superdome. Valet parking is available (fees apply).

Close But No Cigar
If you want to be near Bourbon Street this is somewhat removed and not the place...a bit of a walk. It's not as close as they make it out to be. The hotel has some charm, no real lobby to speak of or place to sit anywhere. Horrible continental breakfast consisting of cheap danish cut-up in small squares and mini muffins with weak coffee...it's in the Warehouse district in an old coffee warehouse apparently. I liked the exposed brick, beds were comfortable, room had a loft like feel with high ceilings, first night I had noisy neighbors with a small child running around, all the floors are pine and creeked, walls were decently insulated but faint conversations could be heard. and could hear feet from the 4th floor above walking, no carpets in rooms. Unexpected $7.95 per day mandatory charge, so much for "all taxes and fees included" internet , phone, bkfst...staff friendly, but aloof at times, would I stay here again, probably not. no pool, no lounge, not much of anything, bathrooms were clean but felt dirty, needed new paint , several lights out, blankets and ruffles had holes in them, pillows looked worn, towels, worn and water resistant (too much fabric softener) average ameneties, couldn't watch tv sitting at desk old style tv's.

Good Price, Good Location, Rustic Hotel
Before I arrived I asked about parking and I was not received well on the phone. I did not realize that I had free Valet parking until I read the [...] details. I was nervous about someone parking my car but everything worked out...Thank God! After I arrived everthing went great! Their was one surprise fee of $7.95 per night for the use of fitness room, business room, etc which I did not use any of it.Bring your own sheets because we were bitten a few times by something in the bedding...scary! Other than that it was a great place, great location, great price... Just needs a little extra care. Surrounded by big expensive hotels...

Fun because of location
The hotel is described as a boutique hotel. It's got that, "our hotel was and old existing building previously, so we're going to show you unfinished brick walls all over. Fits in with the charm of that spot in New Orleans. It's good for first time to New Orleans. You get the feel of French Quarter (3 blocks down, 3 blocks across to Bourbon St) without the headaches (100 people drunk and walking around blocking traffic). Also it's close to Emeril's restaurant. And I got free valet parking. Didn't have to wait to check and get car either on a Sunday 11am. Probably willing to book French Quarter if I don't bring car.

Not Bad but Not Good
We spent the night in New Orleans on our way back from Orlando, FL. We were worried because of the reviews that we read but decided it was only one night and such a great deal with the free parking that we would give it a try. It is a very old building so there are issues but it has a lot of charm with the exposed brick and hard wood floors. The staff could have done a lot more to clean the hotel. The floors obviously hadn't been swept and there was hair in the bathroom and on the bed but because of the reviews we brought our own cleaning supplies and sheets and blankets for the bed so we were prepared. There were a lot of complaints about the air but we turned it to the on setting instead of auto and it worked great for us. The location is very quiet and its right next to the mall. If you're going to the french quarter its just a short ride on the street car. Mothers across the street is good for breakfast and very cheap compared to the other places in NO. The hotel staff wasn't friendly at all, the lady at the front desk did not smile or even look us in the eye the whole time we were checking out. They only had one valet when we checked out so we had to wait a while for our car. If you're staying for an extended period of time I wouldn't suggest staying here but if you just need a place for one night its not that bad. Just be prepared to clean your own room and I would suggest taking your own bedding and towels.

Ok for the price
There is a hidden cost of 7.95 for internet and the fitness center. You pay for this whether you use it or not. This should be included in the initial price. Other than that the hotel was okay.It was close enough to walk to the french quarter.

Old Charm, Bad Smell
The room was as described. It had a funny smell, but there was an Ionizer in the room once we turned it off it was much better. It was very noisy, but so is New Orleans. One Major complaint was parking. It was supposed to be free with the deal we booked. What they fail to tell you is its first come first serve. So we had to park next door and pay 30.00

A hotel that is rich in history
I liked the old New Orleans atmosphere and the French furniture and wood floors. The staff was nice but the desk clerk was very inept. The first room she gave us had someone else's luggage in it. This was very disturbing. We were reassigned to another room where the air conditioner did not work properly and was very warm and humid. There was also a very loud high frequency noise that was unbearable. I was assigned a third room and it was very satisfactory. If I had been given this room the first time I would have a very different impression of the hotel.

Cool but not extroadinary
about a mile from Bourbon so very convenient if youre there to party. The rooms look much bigger in the pictures and we had two rooms in two towers both had one window facing a brick wall. Made us laugh. Staff is ok but Valet takes about 15 minutes to check in and 15 to check out.
