Definately not a 3 star
Hotel was very dated and not very clean. There was mold in the bathroom and you could see somekind of splatter on the wall that hadn't been cleaned up. Room also had several missing electrical outlet covers. The only reason we stayed for the night was because of lack of available hotels in the city.

Unpleasant in the extreme
Special trip to meet friends
Trouble getting into a room even though we had a reservation, then odd and annoying noises every night from both the air conditioner/heater and the mini refrigerator. The wall by the air conditioner/heater unit had an actual rotted/molded off chunk of both base board and sheet rock crumbling and you could feel outside air coming through. We were bitten all over by mosquitos both nights and nothing was done. The products left for sanitary purposes were both inadequate amounts and 3 different brands. When we attempted to get at least one set of one brand we were given an even cheaper off brand that was incredibly harsh on the skin and hair and told that was all that was available even though the clerk said they used brand x which would have been fine. Absolutely no breakfast of any sort, very cheap coffee for the in room machine, and the ice machine had actual chunks of black and gray nasty stuff all over the ice,the only way to get food for breakfast without having to drive way down the road was if you used room service which was, no kidding, as expensive as a 5 star hotel and not of a quality to match. The pool that was supposedly heated was kept at a barely acceptable low 80's, when we were told it was a comfortable 90 to 95 . You pretty much shivered from the "heated pool". The location was okay, not terribly far from decent shopping and not much noise interference from outside, but of course the in room noises made up for that. We had the outer door lock us outside at midnight and had to circle all the way around the building just to get back in even though our room was not far from the locked outer door. We complained and the rather snotty clerk said "we'll look into it in the morning". Had a phone and alarm clock that rang so softly, you almost had to sleep with your head on them to hear them. The wake up calls were late or nonexistent, we got a late one one morning that woke us up but it was terribly soft and we only heard it because we were already up, the 2nd morning, it never came through and we were again already up. Heaven forbid you complain because they immediately blame you - the first rule of customer service is the customer is always right but not with these people. These employees were bad mannered, surly, disgruntled, and just generally unpleasant to deal with. Only one employee tried her best to fix the room issues and unfortunately she went off clock and the employees definitely need a major refresher course in how to NOT treat customers and how to graciously accept the customers complaints and just let it go and not argue. Not only did that offend us greatly, it drove the final nail in the coffin for what an awful experience we had.We had a good time with our friends but very much disliked our hotel experience. We have stayed in all levels of hotels and this was a major let down, there was absolutely nothing of redeeming value about this hotel. Huge problems on checkout morning, was rushed out and pestered to get out repeatedly even with a late check out and a do not disturb sign and due to the repeated interruptions left a few items. No major expense but inconvenient. When we called back less than 2 hours later, they denied any responsibility and said we would have to talk to someone who wouldn't be available for 16 hours. By then we would be in another state or further. Will never stay there again, and will definitely not recommend it to others.

Money-saving tip:
In Hotel
Do not use this hotel, their room service is grossly overpriced and not that good.. The rooms are poorly cared for, the staff is mostly rude, the place has passed the point of gentle decay and hit just run down and in need of repairs badly. Please save your money and go elsewhere.

Doctor's dorm in need of an overhaul
We booked this hotel based on price, location and and rating. When we arrived we were surprised to find a low rise motel, that appears to double as an overnight residency for doctors at the adjacent hospital. The rooms were adequate though there was a musty smell to the entire hotel. I saw a roach in the pool area that I had to get rid of with one of the bath towels provided. The pool also had sediment in the bottom and a cigarette ...not impressive. Overall, not recommended.

Clean,nice staff
Upon arriving, It was not as impressive as the pics were--much older, but staff was great and facility was quite clean. Indoor pool well kept and nice. Room was somewhat small and VERY cold when we arrived in July. No checkout service via TV, and no cable. Great access to St Vincent's hospital; many other guests appeared to be there for that reason. Overall, gave the feeling of an assisted living complex.

Little Hidden Gem
Marten House is hidden away behind the St. Vincent Hospital Complex on the north side of Indianapolis. It has easy access to the main road but traffic noise is never a problem. There is a small restaurant attached to the hotel which proved excellent for a quick early morning breakfast. The staff are all exceedingly friendly and ready to do whatever it takes to accommodate you. The rooms are always clean. The price for my room, no smoking with a king size bed, compared to the local chain hotels, was unbelievable.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
There are breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurants all within a short drive. There are small shopping centers within a very short drive for any personal needs: clothes, pharmacy, groceries, books.

Great for Indy 500
I had to give the hotel high marks. It used to be in the past that you could get a decent place for around $80. Now those days seem gone, it's more like $100. However, there weren't many options and I found this place for the Memorial (Indy 500) weekend for $80. I was a little leery, but, my friends and I got nice, clean rooms, decent beds, a refrigerators, A/C that could cool the room down nicely and the hotel had a nice, indoor pool. The bathrooms in each room weren't anything special, they were clean though. This place was a really good bargain. I would definitely stay here again.
