A great place to stay!!!
The Canterbury in downtown Indianapolis was very clean, hopitable and is in the middle of everything. I will stay there again. This is a classy property and we didn't get the biggest of rooms, but our queen sized bedroom had a nice bathroom, chair with automan and a great LCD TV. You wouldn't be disappointed with a stay here.

This hotel is beautiful & historic.
The hotel is elegant and the location is ideal for walking around Indianapolis to shop and dine. I arrived very late and the hotel staff brought everything to my room while I checked in. The room was beautiful, but smaller than I anticipated, and did not have a desk. They do have wireless internet access though. My room was non-smoking, but the hallway smelled extremely smokey when I arrived. I was grateful that the smoker left, so my next 2 days were pleasant. I did not have a view from my window, so I will request that next time. The staff was helpful and friendly, but breakfast service seemed slow, so I went elsewhere. One of my 3 days I was surprised that did not receive a paper and my shampoo was not replenished. They had oranges available, which I thought was a great touch. The lounge/bar area is wonderful with an old men's club feel and the dining room looked elegant and cozy. I love this hotel!

I walked to the mall and movies and was able to re-enter the hotel from the mall area with my room key. Before the movie, I walked the mall and had a chair massage, had my hair straightened (& bought the product)and had my nails and hands improved (bought more). It was an unexpected & fun evening of pampering!

Great location
The hotel was a good downtown location, walking distance to many great restaurants. We stayed in the standard queen room which was comfortable for two people and quiet, the room was clean and the amenities were plentiful. There is a daily fee for parking. No pool, but the hotel offered free use of a computer/internet with a printer which was nice to print our boarding pass before heading to the airport.

Charming hotel!
Charming hotel! Historical preservation site means everything doesn't look like a chain hotel; feels more like a bed and breakfast. It was like an oasis or peace after a day of convention sessions. Classical music, crystal chandeliers, artwork, old architecture, doormen welcoming you back. Breakfast is outstanding - marvelous eggs benedict and red bliss seasoned potatoes. Tea sandwiches were just right, several varieties, and the scones were perfect, crisp on the outside, moist inside, white chocolate or blueberry. Mmmmmm. The teas were excellent, special blends for the Canterbury. At the end of our convention week, we all agreed that afternoon tea was a highlight. They were all jealous of my four poster bed and beautifully furnished room, the artwork and architecture throughout. The bathroom was a generous size with what appeared to be marble tiles around the shower. Plenty of towels, although I never received the robe. In my mind, it was not a big enough deal for me to ask about it. Daily turndown service with chocolates was a nice touch. Staff was very friendly and helpful in the restaurant and at the front desk. Mind you, I'm also friendly, and I think this is a large help in communicating my needs in advance of my trip and when I need assistance. I called ahead to verify an early check-in and luggage storage after check-out. All the staff spoke English seemingly as a first language, and I greatly appreciated being able to communicate with them easily. More and more often I find it impossible to communicate with the housekeepers in hotels, and that's a great frustration when you just need some more towels, but they can't understand you. Shopping is available without going outside. The hotel connects to a beautiful mall with local and chain stores, restaurants and fast food. It also leads to the spectacular ArtsGarden with visitor center information. Your door key (a real flat brass key, not a card) unlocks the doorway to the hotel from the mall hallway. Very quaint and homey. There's a staircase to that doorway, so if steps are a problem, it's easier to take the elevator from your room to the first floor, and walk a short distance to a street-level mall entrance. The Skywalk connects to the convention center, but you walk around a parking garage which was a little spooky late at night. I chose to take the street instead. There are a number of homeless begging in the area, night and day, but there must be restrictions on how many and where they can beg. They are very polite. Horsedrawn carriages come through the street in front of the hotel and around Monument Circle, a lovely neighborhood of shops and restuarants, but I did not ride them. If I have occasion to return, I'd love to stay at the Canterbury again. Oh, and my wi-fi connection worked out just fine. Kept up with email, no problem. The Canterbury is a beautiful experience for those of us who enjoy historic buildings, tea at 4 pm, classical music, and interaction with friendly local people. Time slows down, and I just wanted to stay there and relax.

A Beautiful Boutique Hotel
The Canterbury is a beautiful facility located in the heart of downtown Indy within walking distance of many attractions. Although on the small side, rooms have been newly renovated and are appointed with exquisite period furnishings. The hotel staff was great. When we called for our car, it was in front of the hotel before we reached the lobby. I would definitely stay there in the future.

Very people orientated
The Canterbury Hotel has an excellent location in downtown Indianapolis. Every time they saw me they were either openning the front door or had a warm smile on their face with something nice to say. The room was very clean and had everything that I needed. There was a special access to the mall from the second floor of the hotel. That was really neat.

Being able to get into the shopping mall without going outside was a nice plus. Because of the food court in the mall, there was a good variety of food to select from. And also all the shops in the mall were good for any shopper maniacs.

Convienent location
Canterbury Hotel - Indianapolis Downtown. The room was small yet comfortable. Queen bed, lamps on both sides of the bed. Table with two chairs in front of a large window. Bathroom has separate vanity area. Ample hanging space for hanging clothes. One suitcase stand. This hotel is great for a single person or a couple. Not exactly a family hotel, they do not offer rooms with multiple beds although they will provide a cot. The hotel within walking distance to shopping, dining, the convention center and other attractions.

I felt like royalty
The Canterbury was fabulous. I am usually uncomfortable with bell hops and so forth, but here, the staff knew how to be there for you, without intruding. We were treated with grace and courtesy. The hospitality of this hotel is special. The room was very comfortable, nicely appointed and quiet. I am not one to make long range plans and to illustrate how hospitable this hotel was: I had taken a long trek around the city to see gardens and old houses. I had noticed that the Canterbury had a four o'clock tea. I made an effort to get back to the hotel by then. When I inquired about the tea, I was asked if I had a reservation..NO, but not a problem, they would do a tea for me. The chef came out and talked to me and said he would be delighted to prepare a tea for me. And impress me he did. Out came the Lenox China, the silver, etc. which were waiting from me after I freshened up in the small but elegant lobby. To top off a delight in service and quite yummy tea and food, was the conceige playing the Grand Piano just for me (actually, he normally plays in the afternoon, but, it certainly felt like it was just for me.
