Never again

This hotel was not up to the standards that were preceived in the other views. The staff was very unfriendly when we checked in. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and when we brought it to the staffs attention they were rude about it and told us that they would only take off a few calls that were made on the room. I tried to talk to the GM of the hotel who was less than willing to compensate us for our time and waste of money. The best part of our trip was going to St Elmos for dinner. When we checked out, our car wasn't waiting for us like we were told it would be. This hotel is not worth the money or the time. We would have been more comfortable at a motel. Please be careful before spending your hard earned money on this hotel. Unless you are famous or an athlete, you will be treated like lower class trash.

Too bad, great location!!!!!

Front desk manager is abrupt and obnoxious. He was very rude to his staff. We witnessed his diva like temper on multiple occasions.(we were only there for three nights) Evening valet was being questioned by local police, aggressively, during our second night stay.(uneasy feeling) Room was kept clean, hallways had room service trays with left over food from our first night to the last night of our stay.(We would joke about the fact that the cleaning staff had to step over those trays to access the rooms? Great location to enjoy Indianapolis. We would not stay there ever again, unfortunately. To us the staff and management make the experience. Rooms are tiny, beds were crispy.

Indy Disappointment

Staff was arrogant and not very happy to have guests. They placed us in the wrong room and in place of sending someone to help move us, they handed us the key to the correct room in the hallway and just walked away without a word. The smell of disinfectant was overwelming throughout the building. We are fairly easy going but this was not a good option and it is too bad that it was our wedding night.

Inadaquate confirmation of a checkout

The day before a check-out day, my clothes and documents in the room were taken away. A front desk person had me confused with other guest, and he/she misunderstood I checked out the day before a registered check-out day. The desk person never confirmed the guest's name, the room number, the registered check-out date. So my clothes and documents were put away when I returned to my room. At last, my documents were not found even though clothes were kept in the storage. My documents, being perceived as paper wastes, would be discarded. I appreciate a young staff who looked for my clothes and documents eagerly, but there are serious defects in the front staffs' training.

Awful Experience

We picked this hotel to stay at because it was a historic hotel -- apparently historic means old and dirty to the Canterbury Hotel. Let's start with the area that hotel is in -- it sits in the downtown area of Indianapolis -- which is surrounded by homeless people, less-than-desirables and road construction. When we walked into the hotel, the lobby seemed nice so we were definitely going to give it a chance. But then we got up to our room where it was literally just big enough for the bed and dresser; however there were several other pieces of furniture crammed in too. The view in our room looked out over the city, however it looked as though the windows hadn't been cleaned since the hotel was built so all we could see was a foggy, dirty cloud of gunk. The bathroom was the absolute worst part of our stay. It was extremely outdated and had very poor lighting. There was a layer of grime and dust caked onto the baseboards and floor. And to top things off there was hair left in our tub and sink -- disgusting. We thought maybe the complimentary breakfast would make things a little more tolerable -- wrong again. The waitress was absolutely rude and didn't have time or politeness to help us with anything. The little amount of food they did have with the breakfast was not good either. Overall it was a really disappointing experience -- we would NEVER recommend this hotel or the area to anyone.

Old and showing it

Wallpaper was pealing off the walls in the bathroom. The finish was worn off the bathroom fixtures. There were holes in hallway ceiling. Their website that my room had ppv movies and a mini bar, it had neither. There were only two hangers in the closet. The faucet leak a lot of water when I turned on the hot water. The queen room was small but the size was fine for just one person. The staff was friendly and the location was great. I used to work at a much older hotel in Chicago so I know that an old hotel does not have to mean old dilapidated rooms. There are much better places to stay.

Not what we Expected

We used this Hotel for our honeymoon. The check in was nice, and friendly. However, when we got to our room, it was very small, and the people in the room next door were very loud and you could hear everything they said. There was a door in our room that attatched to our noisy, parting neighbors, and about 11pm, they attempted to get in our room. The complimentary breakfast is not what you think... Its not any entree its anything under 10.50... with you paying the rest. Our Breakfast costed the 2 of us 35.00. There was no Bath Robes like they advertised... Really not what we expected at all!!! Very Very disappointing.

Nice rooms....Bad service

This hotel is very conveniently located in downtown. We saw a concert at the Conseco Fieldhouse. All through the night we heard the elevator going up and down. Around ten the next morning, all we could hear were the room maids clanking and opening and closing doors. I had spoken with the staff to ask about additional features added to our stay such as the massage package and found the staff to be quite short and disconcerned. At check in and check out the woman working the counter was very short and we kind of felt like a burden rather than a guest. We would not stay again.
