BEST WESTERN PLUS Howe Inn

The hotel was excellent. Room was clean and very comfortable. Great breakfast selection. The overall hotel was very clean and pleasant.

This hotel had obviously at one time a smoking hotel. The staff had tried to cover up the stench with an extremely irritating floral deodorizing spray that was applied to the draperies and then blown throughout the room by the air conditioner. It was so strong, all of our clothing smelled like this within an hour. It also bothered both my husband and I throughout the night, causing eye and respiratory irritation, as well as headaches. The restroom door was closed when we came into the room and after about an hour, we opened the door to use the facilities. The entire bathroom was filled with cigarette smoke. This was not old, stale smoke like we could smell in the room beneath the floral spray. This was fresh smoke. We turned on the exhaust fan in the bathroom and closed the door. It took several hours for most of the smoke to be pulled out. The rest of it filled our room. When we began to turn down the bed, we noticed stains on the top sheet that covered the comforter. Upon closer inspection, it became apparent that these stains were human excrement. As if the smoke issue wasn't enough. We had worked all day, driven several hours to this hotel, had unpacked, and were tired. It would have been a great inconvenience to get all of our items back together and move to another room. We removed the sheet and put it into the smelly bathroom and inspected the bed for further soil and decided to stay in the room. We did not report this to the girl at the checkout desk, as I don't think she would have followed through with this and we felt that discussing these matters in front of other guests would have been inappropriate. I am, however, sending a copy of this information to the hotel via email. We spent $90. for this room and it made both of us ill. This was a disgusting experience and I don't feel we should have paid anything to stay at this hotel. I certainly do not want a free stay at another Best Western Hotel. I hope you will pass along this information so other guests do not have a similar experience.

friendly and helpful staff, mattresses and pillows were extremely comfortable, breakfast was fresh and served at the right temperature, showers had great water pressure, hotel was quiet- couldn't hear next door neighbors, accommodations of iron, ironing board, refrig and microwave were appreciated amenities, Have already made reservations to stay again!

The room was very clean and the location was terrific for us. The pool, although small, was nice for our needs. Unfortunately we had two issues. Our room did smell like someone had smoked in it and they had tried to cover it up with some kind of spray. Luckily we were able to open up the window. What concerned me most was the lack of a wake up call. My wife and I have never experienced a hotel that did not follow through on a wake up call. Our wake up call was requested at a reasonable time for a reasonable time in the morning. If I had not awaken a short time after our missed wake-up call, then a family event would have been ruined. The hotel said "sorry", but I felt there was little empathy and possibly a questioning on whether we really requested a wake up call.

Best Western Howe is a great location with very clean rooms and a hot breakfast.
